I have taken annual leave for the day.
My husband and kids don’t know, I know it might sound wrong but I need a break.
To put it mildly, it’s been the worst year of my life.
Anyway, I’ve booked a massage for the morning. I’ll probably go to the beach for a bit and find somewhere nice for lunch. what else shall I do?
Im so looking forward to it. Can’t do anything at home as husband and both teens will be there.
Thanks for any ideas
I’ll be in Shoreham area if anyone has any wise ideas for there or nearby but just anything really

Thanks. I have a car so can head anywhere. I love the beach at Shoreham but no nice cafes there I think. So might do massage, swim and beach then Lewes or Worthing for lazy lunch and if I feel like it, a mooch around

Sounds lovely OP. Have a wonderful day.

Finishing up with a piece of cake and coffee sounds perfect.

Clicheinaqashqai · 18/08/2025 20:46

I also have a day to myself tomorrow, I booked DS in to holiday club (his favourite) specifically so I could have a chill day!

My plan is a swim, pedicure, spot of grown up shopping (deliberately sorted kids uniforms etc already so I don't end up doing errands), lots of nice coffees and reading time and maybe a walk depending on how long the shopping takes.

Zanatdy · 18/08/2025 20:48

Have a wonderful day OP, some much needed ‘me time’. Great idea.

Betsy95 · 18/08/2025 20:48

Argh I’m so jealous! To be honest I think the day you’ve already planned sounds perfect, don’t cram too much in otherwise it won’t be relaxing.

Or head over to Lewes - I love it there!

Same here! It’s lovely!

Love this idea! Might steal it (but will have to wait as I'm out of annual leave this year😔).

For me after a massage, sauna, sea swim ... I'd have to book a blow-dry as my hair would be a mess & I'd want to feel like a queen after that fab day 😀

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 18/08/2025 20:52

Oh op you’re an inspiration, don’t map the day out too much just do what the heck you want when you want, enjoy and………….relax

Did you say Lewes - as in Glyndebourne?

yours, enviously…

I love this idea! I have a few days holiday left and am definitely going to plan a secret day just for me. Ooh, going to list all the things I like doing then whittle it down to a perfect me day! Thinking museum, cake and somewhere new as a starter for ten!

Btowngirl · 18/08/2025 20:55

Don’t know why, but as soon as you said about going to the beach I thought of Brighton! I’d be going to beach box on Kingston beach for a sea swim and sauna if I were you. Or have you been to saltdean lido? Lovely cafe options there too and gorgeous grounds to sit and people watch!

DancingNotDrowning · 18/08/2025 21:01

Sounds lovely - I’d do massage, a bit of shopping and cinema in the evening (just to keep it going).

I do a day occasionally but I was recently awestruck by a colleague who takes 4 days to herself every year and checks into a five star hotel, swims, reads, orders room service, does a bit of low key shopping. She doesn’t do it in secret but she of off grid with her DH and DC. I’m going to do similar next month 😊

Doggymummar · 18/08/2025 21:04

New Ikea and ivy Asia for lunch

crazycatladie · 18/08/2025 21:10

What a great idea. I’m going to do this. I’m going to start planning it! Enjoy and let us know how it went.

Cherrytree86 · 18/08/2025 21:11

Well I think it’s a disgrace! Every single day of your annual leave should be about you spending time with your children! What kind of parent are you??!

jokes.

your day sounds great Op, and you’ve had some great suggestions on this thread. What’s your fave cocktail? Make sure you have one (or two) of those.

@CHO0SE

okydokethen · 18/08/2025 21:11

Love this! If I see a happy relaxed woman in shoreham I’ll hope it’s you! Have fun…. Maybe see if there’s anything on at rope tackle or head for a pub lunch with a book and a glass of wine

pizzaHeart · 18/08/2025 21:16

are you going to tell them afterwards? If no, don’t do nails .
I personally wouldn’t tell to keep this opportunity open for the next time.
Have fun for all of us! I won’t be able to do this as we all have life 360 on the phones so no chance 😂.

Parentsinlaw · 18/08/2025 21:22

Oh.my.gosh. I didn’t realize people did this! I’ve dreamt about it for years and always felt too guilty to actually do it.
not any more!

Laura95167 · 18/08/2025 21:22

Take a book.

Buy an icecream somewhere nice

TheChosenTwo · 18/08/2025 21:25

Oh god op im dreaming of a day to myself and my dc are all pretty much grown up 😂😂 13, 19 and 21 but between dh and them there is ALWAYS SOMEONE AT HOME!
We’ve taken some time off over the summer but once the youngest is back at school and the middle one is back at uni I’m booking a day of leave and will be having a massage, pedicure, lunch and then home for a lie down in peace!
I’m tempted to say don’t plan too much but then I know I’d feel like I’d wasted the day if I hadn’t done lots even when sometimes what I need to do is absolutely nothing!
However you end up
spending it, enjoy and come back and tell us all about it tomorrow evening 😊

ViolaChomp · 18/08/2025 21:26

Book a dead cheap premier inn room and have the day watching TV, napping, reading, eating snacks you can leave at tea time 😀

axelswhitehair · 18/08/2025 21:27

This reminds me of when the kids were small and id tell my dp i was going to X store to do the shopping which was a decent drive away, would have a few hours doing what i wanted as id already ordered the shopping online for click and collect 😂 enjoy your free time!

SusanChurchouse · 18/08/2025 21:27

Sounds amazing!

I like a mooch around a posh charity shop or antiques place.

mintydoggyv · 18/08/2025 21:29

Enjoy
