To think over 50% of meetings could be emails and managers know it?

It feels like managers pad out their schedules with pointless meetings just to justify their roles. AIBU to think they know most meetings are a waste of everyone’s time?

My brother got a new job WFH and build an office in his garden.

I brought him a coaster for it that said “just attended another meeting that could have been an email” 🤣

I’m not sure it’s to justify their job and I actually sometimes go and find my boss to speak face to face just to see someone when I could ring internally to email.

It’s also easier to bounce ideas around when discussing - and depending on what the topic is quicker than waiting all day for a response to something you want actioned then or at least ready to action.

Agreed, also sometimes you need to discuss things without a written record or a recording.

At least In a meeting you can see people's genuine reactions and responses

There are so many of these threads referring to 'managers', which is just meaningless given the extremely broad meaning of this and what it might involve.

I'm with you OP. It's rife in the NHS. My other bugbear is the numerous "awareness" training and refreshers that we have to take every year.

It's no wonder we're always behind on our work.
