AIBU- worried about rain on wedding day

MummaHud · 17/08/2025 12:05

We are getting married in Spain on 27th with our family ( my fiance is Spanish ) the weather this morning was showing sunshine purely and this afternoon 55% chance of rain. We wanted to get married outside and the inside option isn’t as nice and completely defeats the object of getting married abroad.

I feel really sad about it. I know it’s 10 days away and could change back as easily as it changed this morning… but I feel a bit deflated tbh

If we didn’t want an external wedding, we would’ve booked England and got our Spanish family over to here.. not vice versa. When you have a wedding, you have a vision and a location dream… your sarcastic comments don’t take away from the fact that it’s ok to have a ‘perfect wedding’ vision and our wedding we wanted it to be outside.

You're setting yourself up to fail having a "perfect wedding vision"
As then if it does something like have the cheek to rain or your shoes are too tight the whole day's ruined
Unclench a little and focus on the wedding bit, you know the important bit

@MummaHud

There's no way, with the best will in the world, that the met office/Spanish equivalent, can predict that there is a 55% chance of rain in TEN days time. It's just a forecast, a prediction, a bit of an educated guess, but they are often wrong. Rain was predicted multiple times a few months ago, and it never materialised. Also, they've predicted temperatures of 27-28C 'in 10 days time' a few times, and it was 31-33C when it came to it.

YANBU to worry of course, but you can't alter the weather, no-one can. I am sure it will be fine, and won't rain on you! It is going to be late August after all. It will be lovely, I'm sure! All the best! 😘

I’m sure I’ve read somewhere, or seen it on the telly, about burying a sausage at your outdoor wedding venue to prevent it raining on the day: it worked too.
Worth a try OP!

Tiktok nonsense

I wouldn’t worry unless the venue is on the plain

This made me laugh!!

Rain on a wedding day is seen as a blessing.

Not quite but on the right lines, in the old days a couples wrists were tied together in a hand fasting ceremony. Rain makes the knot harder to undo.

Milly16 · 17/08/2025 12:48

Various showers on my wedding day. Didn't matter a bit and was still an incredible day

MrsDoylesTeaTray · 17/08/2025 12:49

Envisaging the perfect wedding = a miserable bride as some minor issue, go with the flow and your photos will be much better, genuine emotion - not forced permagrins!

BIossomtoes · 17/08/2025 12:51

It rained on my wedding day. Then stopped halfway through the ceremony and a shaft of sunlight came through the church window. It was beautiful.

RonnIeAl77 · 17/08/2025 12:52

It rained on my wedding day. They say that they rain makes the cords you tie on the day harder to break. We’ve been married 20 years and more in love than ever. Don’t stress about it- what will be will be. Good luck!

MavisandHetty · 17/08/2025 13:30

You’re getting married in Spain, in August, and it’s rain you’re worried about? Aren’t you terrified of sweating through your dress and your guests feeling miserable in 30°+ heat?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 17/08/2025 13:44

It rained on our wedding day. We've just celebrated our 24th anniversary.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 17/08/2025 13:48

The point of a wedding is to get married @MummaHud

The marriage is the important thing, not the venue.

tripleginandtonic · 17/08/2025 13:48

A perfect wedding doesn't exist OP. Chill, I'm sure you'll have a lovely day and lovely photos and memories no matter what the weather

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 17/08/2025 14:00

I've some some absolutely stunning rainy day wedding pics. I'd research them and look into anything you might need like umbrellas, waterproof shoes etc

This. If I was a guest I’d be praying for rain. Otherwise you’ll have to watch for heatstroke, especially if it’s a bilingual ceremony (and therefore twice as long!).

“When you have a wedding you have a vision and a location dream”….

you might, but I didn’t. Agree with Pp that it’s your desire for perfection that is making you said, not the possibility of rain. There’s always the possibility of rain, anywhere on any day.

It can't defeat the object, surely the object of getting married is to be married?

I think she means having wanted to get married outside in sunshine she may as well have saved the expense of herself and her guests (it won’t have been cheap booking flights mid summer) and booked indoor Venue at home

Louisiannadaisy · 17/08/2025 14:21

We had an outdoor wedding married at the village church and a marquee in our garden 2 acres. August wedding Uk was meant to rain on the afternoon it didn’t happen and I was sad because I was so hot in my dress and a shower would have been lush. If I was to renew my vows I wouid wish for rain just to mucky the white dress and have fun with it. Honestly try not to stress over things that you can’t change. Go with the flow with a drink in hand and enjoy ever moment rain or no rain. It’s a once in a lifetime experience ( or meant to be) xx

Charel2girl5 · 17/08/2025 14:23

It’s out of your control. Please stop worrying, what will be will be. When I got married it absolutely poured and I barely noticed as I was so excited! Twenty years later all I remember is the happiness and joy of the day.
Savour every moment that’s not weather related! 💐💐💐

Surely half her guests, and the groom, are Spanish. When you marry someone from somewhere else (and I have) there are no destination weddings, just a choice between two ‘home’ weddings.

We did this for our outdoor wedding, in April, in the UK - it worked! Beautiful weather. We have suggested it to all our friends since and it had worked for them too

TikTok didn’t exist when we got married 15 years ago and did this!

There’s always the possibility of rain, anywhere on any day.

Absolutely this! MN is often really weird about weather as though "abroad" guarantees sunshine - but obviously not too much sunshine or they will have to cower indoors all day.

It's not that long ago that there were numerous threads along the lines of "we booked a holiday abroad but it's forecast to rain all week, shall we cancel?"

More recently, people have been considering cancelling because (e.g.) the South of France is going to be too hot in August (no shit Sherlock)

"Weather" - whichever type floats your boat - is not guaranteed, and long range forecasts change on a daily basis.

Some posters are now wishing that they had stayed in the UK this year to take advantage of the high temperatures. I'm pretty sure that if those posters decide to book a UK holiday for August 2026 then they will be moaning about the fact that it's going to be raining (not unlikely!).

We went on a long-haul holiday earlier this year and the forecast right up until the day we left said solid rain for 2 weeks. Bit of a shame, but them's the breaks. We actually had two weeks of glorious sunshine. Very glad we didn't cancel (not that we were considering doing that).

OP, you could change the date, but what if the forecast then changes? How many times would it be feasible to do this?

Try not to stress, the weather on the day will be what the weather on the day is. I hope you have a lovely day.

How exactly do you think it worked"? (Rather than just being a coincidence?) Curious as to what anyone thinks the connection is between burying a sausage and the weather.
