To be concerned that my boyfriend is buying drugs on the dark web?

My boyfriend and I are in our 20s and our relationship has been going reasonably well. At the start, he told me that he was taking benzos and ADHD meds for his mental health.

I work at home and last week when I was in the study room, I found a letter in the cupboard address to him from customs that said they had seized 20 tablets of dexamphetamine from the Netherlands saying how it was illegal to import a controlled substance without a permit.

I confronted him about this and he said that he's been doing it for years without an issue and that he wasn't concerned about being raided/arrested by the police as they don't care about small amounts.

He has ADHD and anxiety which he has been unable to get treated by a psychiatrist due to the long waiting lists so I can sympathize but at the same time, I really don't feel comfortable with the police bursting in if he comes to the attention of the customs/the police again.

The real question is do you think a man thar self mediates instead of seeking professional help is a catch?

Eta, he says the waiting lost is long, but has he actually been to the doctor , is he on the list and is he lookong at alternative support strategies beyond fobbing you off with lazy and dangerous solutions like self medicating?

If your boyfriend has been diagnosed by a HCP with ADHD and anxiety why is he not getting any meds required thtough his GP?
All sounds a bit fishy to me.
Anyone buying drugs through the Internet is gambling with their health and their life. It's just a very stupid thing to do.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 17/08/2025 10:33

Has he been on a waiting list for a psychiatrist since before the two of you moved in together, how long have you been an item ?

Personally I would be taking him to his GP for referrals.

Is he actually diagnosed professionally with ADHD or is he using it as an excuse to justify his drug addiction?

NewBlueNoteBook · 17/08/2025 10:37

So many red flags.

This isn’t someone to spend your life with.

teksquad · 17/08/2025 10:37

Has he been diagnised with ADHD? Otherwise he just likes speed and its cheaper to get ot off the internet than but from a local dealer. Im surpirsed the police haven't followed up though. Surely his address will be on a list now and they will if he does it again.

Lots of people in their twenties take recreational drugs, ordering a regualr supply seems a bit more than recreational but it depends on your appetite for this. I wouldn't want my address on that list.

Who actually recommended these meds he’s buying? Dex is used in ADHD but benzos aren’t, I’m sure have some actually have serious contraindications with adhd meds.

ExtraOnions · 17/08/2025 10:43

He could spend the money being used on illegal drugs for a private Psych appointment.

Has he actually been diagnosed ? Is he on a waiting list?

MamaElephantMama · 17/08/2025 10:45

He’s been taking them for years.. He could have been top of the waiting list in that time.

I would be worried he’s either addicted and there’s a whole lot more you don’t know about him.

Themostcontrolyouhaveisoveryourself · 17/08/2025 10:46

How long has he been buying these drugs on the black market?
Why hasn't he considered going down the RTC pathway to get a legitimate diagnosis and treatment?

BuckChuckets · 17/08/2025 11:06

As someone currently medicated for ADHD, it's not as simple as 'here are the meds for ADHD'. You go through the titration process to get the best medication and dosage for you personally.
