Has anyone noticed recently that the OPs of particularly contentious or unreasonable threads always have a username that follows the above format?

Something like CuteRedBasket or DaftPlumTurkey?

I just noticed it again on another thread and I've seen it at least 6 or 7 times in the last 2 months. That's too many times to be a coincidence and the threads are always contentious with an unreasonable OP who refuses to admit otherwise despite an influx of users and comments disagreeing with them.

It's almost like it's deliberate click bait designed to drive engagement.

Surely, I can't be the only one who's seen this? Is it bots? A batch of paid MN users sprinkled in to keep the forums lively and debate going? Is there a random AI name generator suggesting usernames in this format? 😅 What is happening?

The random formulaic username s are recommended to new posters by the site

They are just defaults, chosen by the MN platform for new users who don't want the hassle of choosing a name. They work on the same principal as the WhatThreeWords app

Yes, I once had to create a temporary account and got offered a range of usernames - some of them were quite good!

It’s the user name format plus the AIBU that starts with ‘To think that…[some totally stupid click bait thing]’ which are the ones to watch out for.
