To be scared

For the past few nights, I've heard a rumbling noise in the background that I assumed was a local engine manufacturer testing their engines.

However, my husband can't hear it and I have noticed it when I go to the office as well (I mostly work from home).

It's worst at night. I'm taking amitriptyline for sleep lately so might be related to that.

I do have hearing loss due to ear infections as a child and at times high pitched tinnitus.

I am thinking of going to the emergency room just in case it is caused by a brain tumor since it came on suddenly. I'm 36 so I don't think it could be schizophrenia?

Thoughts?

I would go Babe… if they can’t help you, they should refer you.

IamNotBeingUnreasonable · 16/08/2025 05:46

No, this is not an emergency. Go to your own doctor but not emergency.

CracklingFlames · 16/08/2025 05:48

A&e won't refer you. This is neither an accident or emergency.. you need to make a routine appointment with your GP.

Just go to gp next week its likely tinnitus or another ear infection etc it wont be anything life threatening

It’s most likely tinnitus: mine makes all kinds of noises.

Houndsahollering · 16/08/2025 06:10

Not an emergency. Can be dealt with in primary care.

Thanks everyone! I feel a bit better that this may be just a new form of my tinnitus

Update: I have stopped amitriptyline and after just one night the rumbling is almost gone! Sooo relieved!
