Pizza Express "new recipe" chicken goujons. WTF?

I was expecting chicken strips in breadcrumbs, I got 6 chicken mcNuggets with a pesto dip at the grand price of £8.75.🤯

They were not strips of chicken. They were the cheapest, reconstituted and reformed meat in a nasty batter. The kind you get in budget shops for £1.50 a kilo.

If this is the new recipe how nasty was the old one?

I had a boneless basket at Wetherspoon’s last week that had chicken strips and chicken bites and they were both pieces of chicken breast and not reformed stuff for way less than £8.75 so I’d certainly expect proper chicken at Pizza Express.

It probably doesn’t bother you but they get a lot of their chicken from Thailand. That’s how they can offer chicken breast at a cheap price.

To be fair a vast proportion of the chains in the U.K. also do this. Particularly the chicken used in ready meals, the Lidl Delux ones for example.

I ordered a chicken salad once and the chicken was like rubber. Almost like those fridge raiders, smelled like dog treats.🤢

So I'm not surprised the nuggets were grim. They don't have proper chicken. The one thing I used to love was the nicoise salad...but they changed the recipe so no beans, no potatoes, no olives or onions? It was basically tuna, lettuce, cucumber and tomato. Absolute scandal!

It used to smell really nice, the pizza dough actually tasted fresh. This was in the late 80s mind.

YABU for ordering any other side apart from the dough balls.

Totally agree about the chicken goujons! They taste awful, the herby flavour is totally incoherent, and that total excuse for batter - doughy and disappointing! One was burnt and that was crisp - sad to say burning it improved it to old British Rail standard. Whoever taste tested and approved them needs a taste bud transplant!
