Now married with kids when you see on Fb pics.

Has anyone ever had that?

I think it's weird that people have never met someone and assumed they were gay. I mean would you really not assume Graham Norton, Alan Carr, Boy George, Julian Clary, Paul O'Grady etc etc were gay if you met them? I see non celebs on random shows like gardeners world and assume they're gay and then they mention their husband. It's strange to me that some people have never ever thought that someone they met was gay.

There are also lots of men out there that are gay/bi and in denial/hiding it/sleeping around behind their wives backs while pretending to be completely straight. I was married to one of them and I've heard from many others in the same boat since I found out.

Well yes probably I would these days. And in fact most of my adult life. But I genuinely think there was a lot less awareness a generation or so ago.

I remember my Mum used to love watching Liberace on the TV and when my Dad muttered insults about him my Mum told him he was being ridiculous!

I wonder whether any of the homophobic morons that beat DP up when he was 16 think of starting threads like this?

@IzzyHandsIsMySpiritAnimal

how do you know that the ones you thought were shits… are shits 40 years later?

A combination of a wide friendship group, small community and social media.

You were an incredibly astute child!

Have you gone into a career that involves reading people?

No, but I am a good judge of character, generally. Right now I'm taking a sabbatical so not engaging with many people on a daily basis.

Strange thread.
Just because someone is on social media with their wife and kids doesn't mean they are living a heterosexual family life.
You know nothing about their life.
They could be in an open marriage and conceived the kids with a turkey baster because they (both the husband and wife) are gay but wanted children and steady companionship.
No one knows what's going on behind the doors of a marriage and as long as it's all consensual and legal who cares?

And just because some moronic 14 year olds decided that somebody was gay because they weren't conforming to the most basic gender stereotypes, that doesn't mean they weren't absolutely heterosexual and went on to have a perfectly ordinary, healthy and secure marriage.

Yes... that too !
I just meant was no one can really know the personal details of someone's marriage unless they are in that marriage.
Not that's it's any of their business anyway.
That's why I think this thread is strange.

Sounds awful

This seems a really odd question to me. Speaking as someone who was in secondary school from 1976 until 1983, I don't remember anyone at all - boys or girls - who I presumed were gay or lesbian.

If anything, my experience has been the opposite.

I did find out about 10 years after leaving school that a friend of mine had come out as being lesbian. This was quite a surprise to me as I know that she definitely hooked up with more than one boy in the 5th year and lower 6th.

Although, perhaps she was unsure of her sexual orientation at the time and only felt able to accept her orientation as she grew older?

One married a woman and had a son but sorted himself out and married a man later on.
Another is married to a woman, I’d guess it’s a lavender marriage from pictures.

hoohaal · 16/08/2025 19:57

No, I haven’t had this.

All of the boys we thought were gay in school did turn out to be gay!

What kind of pictures does he post on SM that would lead you to conclude this?

merryhouse · 18/08/2025 17:10

It never occurred to me that any of them might be gay Blush

Obviously several are. Including one I had a long-term crush on.

RejoiceandSing · 18/08/2025 17:23

The question doesn't make sense OP.
They could be gay and married to another man with kids. "married with kids" =/= "straight".
