Boys you assumed were gay at school

Now married with kids when you see on Fb pics.

Has anyone ever had that?

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 15/08/2025 22:00

The one person I KNEW to be gay married someone the opposite sex as her. Both very religious and I know there was contention around him being gay too.

Oddly enough they ended up divorced.

It's quite sadly really. All cos of religion.

Othersnotsomuch · 15/08/2025 21:56

This is weird

the op is asking if anyone “assumed” someone was gay at school who later married and have kids

and you say you have 3 lovely gay friends

ok

No. We’re no longer in touch. But they are married.

But to men.

I don’t have anything to offer the op. Like I said, I was adding to the following posts. Maybe you should read them.

Othersnotsomuch · 15/08/2025 22:03

head. Wall. Bang! 😆

Please do 😂

A few lads and girls that everyone assumed were gay, are gay.

One lad that said he was bisexual at school, later said he was straight, married a woman and had children. He has recently said he is gay, always knew he was gay and has left his wife for another man that he has been cheating with for the majority of the marriage. Bastard!

IzzyHandsIsMySpiritAnimal · 15/08/2025 19:49

No.
Boys I assumed were gay turned out to be gay. Girls I assumed were gay turned out to be gay.
I've got very good gaydar.
Also, the kids I thought would turn out to be utter shits have turned out to be utter shits.
The kids I became friends with are still friends.
We left school 40 years ago.

Hahah this is so funny, my DD, who is gay, has the worst gaydar ever. She actually thought Graeme Norton was straight.
She’s screwed

Being out and gay was very unusual in my day so I never assumed anyone in school was gay as it seemed very rare to be gay. Never crossed my mind.

Of course now I realise that many more people were gay than I ever knew. I'm trying to think back and I'm not surprised that any have an opposite sex or same sex spouse. Does it matter what we assume and what is the reality???

You had 3 lovely gay friends

A cracking “anecdote”

MysteriousUsername · 15/08/2025 22:11

I never thought about anyone's sexuality when i was at school. I went to a girls school so didn't know many boys. Some people reckoned one of my friends was lesbian but we never spoke about it - she married a man , had kids, and now has a wife. A couple of others from school have been married to men and now have wives. Some have only had girlfriends/wives.

GreenFlag · 15/08/2025 22:13

I think this post just highlights opinion is not fact!

I’m sorry I’ve hit a nerve. I can be controversial but even this has surprised me.

I was just a bit like you can’t always assume. The lads I hung out with were lovely, I knew they were gay and they were.

Didn’t realise this would even ping on anyone’s radar. Mumsnet is a funny place.

BarbaraVineFan · 15/08/2025 22:17

This is the strangest thread. Sorry OP but I don’t really understand the point of it? It seems to be a) bringing out the latent or overt homophobes and b) not contain any kind of question or debate.

Brainstorm23 · 15/08/2025 22:21

My entire family were convinced my brother was gay. He got married (to a woman) in April. I've met his wife precisely once and she didn't even speak to any of us at the wedding. She's an odd fish.

Sorry for poor grammar in this post- I lost the structure of my sentence between a) and b) and now can’t edit.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 15/08/2025 22:27

There were no gay kids openly gay in my school class as come from a rough area. The 2 gay kids that were in my school went away and are both now married to their love for life partners. No is surprised or is bothered and everyone happy for them.

Turtledude · 15/08/2025 22:37

My husband, all this friends thought he was gay. All because he was respectful about women never catcalled or made teenage sexual comments as he thought it was weird and disrespectful.

Hes a great husband, respectful and we do equal chores, takes on feedback.

StMarie4me · 15/08/2025 22:43

Many people assumed my Ds2 was gay as all his friends were girls.

He has been happily with one of them for 20 years now. Married with 2 teenage daughters.

Trumpthecant · 15/08/2025 22:44

Why does it matter?!

Trumpthecant · 15/08/2025 22:45

why do people care so much about other people’s sexuality? Genuinely, why does it matter?!

Matronic6 · 15/08/2025 22:53

There was a guy from uni that I thought was struggling with his sexuality. At one point he even told me he thought he was and was really confimused. Then he got in with some christian group and started talking about how being gay was a sin and all that nonsense.

We both ended up reducing contact, I was uncomfortable with the way he spoke about homosexuality and I think he was awkward about why had said. He ended up marrying a woman and had 2 kids. A few years ago another friend saw his profile on Grindr.

LouisaJG · 15/08/2025 21:57

It’s hilarious when straight people think they have gaydar.

Is it also “hilarious” when gay people think they can spot straight people?

Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups

You assumed and you were wrong. I don't know what the point of your post is.

LemonCatsHat · 15/08/2025 23:09

“Hit a nerve”

oh dear. Just because I chuckled at you thinking it was relevant to throw in your “anecdote” that you have you proudly puffed out your chest “3 lovely gay friends”

I bet you liberally throw around “narcissist” and “are you triggered” too 🤭 @Sometimeswinning

Please say that he’s no longer friends with these “friends” and you never needed to meet / socialise with them @Turtledude ?!
