To feel a bit sick when looking at certain celebs?

I have a weird thing where certain people make me feel physically sick/Uneasy. It’s mainly celebrities or people in the public eye.

One example is Jeremy Corbyn. Nothing to do with his politics - it’s something about him.

My latest one is Danny Dyer - especially with a moustache.

Anyone else get this?

I do wonder if we are picking up on some mannerisms or warning signals with these men, as the ones mentioned I wonder if they all have some common feature like little teeth or the way they smile etc. to me the common theme is the fact they are all fake, none of the men mentioned have any warmth to them.

It’s possible they are sociopaths or narcissists. That’s why people have a physical reaction to them. It’s designed to keep us safe.

I can’t stand Katie Perry but I don’t feel sick I just can’t stand her. I can’t stand her music or her behaviour. It makes me irrationally angry when I see her on TV.

Not sure that can be true as other people think some of these men listed are gorgeous!

You think you can predict someone's behaviour by the size of their teeth?

I imagine it’s the ‘wolffish’ look of those three that’s making you uncomfortable 🐺

Yes, it absolutely is. I can't stand wolfish or macho men. Give me a soft hearted gentle-spirited man any day. Much sexier imo.

DoNotIron · 14/08/2025 10:04

I was reading through these and thinking nah, there’s nobody. Until I came to Claudia Winkleman. She seems like a funny, intelligent woman, but I wouldn’t really know because I can’t look at her for more than a few seconds. Her hair makes me physically jerk an invisible fringe out of my eyes. She also has invisible lips (not really obviously) which make me think of illness. Neither of these are unalterable traits, so I don’t feel too bad saying that her choice of how to present herself gives me a very visceral reaction!

Mad Men was a great series but I just couldn't bear to look at John Hamm (without, at the time, having any idea that he is in fact a prize arsehole) so ended up abandoning it altogether.

Say it ain't so! I love him.

Thispupsgottofly · 14/08/2025 10:04

The guy who played Rupert Campbell-Black in rivals. He was supposed to be gorgeous and dashing but to me his face was so big it was almost grotesque.
I don't like Amy Shumer's face. Her mouth is much too small.

MrsSkylerWhite · 14/08/2025 10:05

Sick, no. Probably irrational dislike based on not a lot, yes. Alan Carr. Have to switch off. David Williams, too though he thankfully seems to have pretty much disappeared.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 14/08/2025 10:05

Will Ferrell makes me cringe. He's probably a nice guy really, but i cannot watch any of his films. He's like that kid at school who thinks he's a comedian but just isnt funny.

Westfacing · 14/08/2025 10:07

Harvey Weinstein - when he was very powerful. Just so so repulsive to look at!

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 14/08/2025 10:08

And Adil Ray. There is something about him that comes across as sneery, self-satisfied and incredibly pompous which makes him unattractive in spite of being objectively handsome. If he could eat himself he would, and he'd go on about how delicious he was.

I feel this way about Dominic West. He's a really good actor, but the way he bares his teeth like a male gorilla when he smiles makes me leave the room. It feels so malevolent. Didn't help that he was so believable as Fred West.

Same with Walter Goggins. My flesh crawls. And Jack Nicholson.

Edited

He was in front of me in a queue at Gatwick airport. I audibly said "Muffin me" like he does on the Nationwide advert. He just gave me a weary look. Not my finest hour.

Pedro Pascal. For various reasons, some mentioned on this thread already.

Miriam Margolyes.

No, not Miriam😮

IHateWasps · 14/08/2025 10:08

Graham Norton used to make me feel physically ill and I don’t know why.

Rylan, David Walliams and Jimmy Carr all make me feel a bit sick too. They remind me of ventriloquist’s dummies.

I have a lot of strong reactions to certain words and names too. They can make me feel ill or agitated. I’m not sure if it’s related to my autism.

smugmugg · 14/08/2025 10:09

😆😆

CalzoneOnLegs · 14/08/2025 10:09

@LittleBitofBread agree about John Hamm - looks horrible and vain and was charged in a hazing incident whilst at college

smugmugg · 14/08/2025 10:09

that was for @WestwardHo1

He's one of that category of people who annoy me or freak me out because their eyes are too close together.
See also Ryan Gosling (although he seems funny and sweet so I try to rise above it) and Novak Djokovic (who is in many other ways a certified cunt, so I don't feel bad about that).

too much botox & hair dye plus Rylans dentures

He looks a bit like a ventriloquists dummy (as does Stephen Mulhearn) imo 😂

Yes! And here was I thinking it was just me. It was a very strange bit of casting, but I suppose someone must think he's sex on legs. I thought it was a wasted opportunity to have someone properly gorgeous and rakish, instead of just rakish and and unusual looking but not in a good way.

No, it was Beachtastic who said he was an arsehole; I didn't know. Is it true about the hazing? Shock Sad

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 14/08/2025 10:11

I don't feel sick but there is something about Jamie Oliver that makes we want to punch him/my TV screen if he's on it. Repeatedly.

I know he does loads for healthy school meals, loves his family, is a fellow dyslexic and probably a lovely person.

But fuck me he gives me the rage.

CalzoneOnLegs · 14/08/2025 10:11

@LittleBitofBread its the facial symmetry thing, same as why people recoil at Dominic Cumberbatch his eyes are really far apart

rolloverbeethoven · 14/08/2025 10:12

I think a lot of people have misunderstood and put people they dislike or disagree with. For me it's Benedict Cumberbatch. I can see that dispassionately he's a good looking man, and I'm sure he's very nice, but there's something that worries me. I wonder if sometimes these people remind us of someone in our past that we can't quite remember.
