To feel a bit sick when looking at certain celebs?

I have a weird thing where certain people make me feel physically sick/Uneasy. It’s mainly celebrities or people in the public eye.

One example is Jeremy Corbyn. Nothing to do with his politics - it’s something about him.

My latest one is Danny Dyer - especially with a moustache.

Anyone else get this?

Andrew Lawrence. The combination of face and voice grated on me. Even worse since the awful joke he made about the Liverpool parade collision.

DiordreBarlow · 14/08/2025 09:04

Eamonn Holmes
Tom Cruise
J D Vance

Elton John has this effect on me. I physically recoil when I see a picture of him and I’m not sure why.

because he physically repulses you as he does me, more than physical, shudder

the one who really makes me hurl and have to turn the sound down or switch channels is the awww favourite Lewis Capaldi, tales of his ‘big jobbies’ scatalogical humour, just the sight of him, with his ‘just crawled out of my stinking pit of a grubby bed to come up here and sing to you all’ or being interviewed ‘on the sofa’ no filter, charmless, lauded

I feel sickened at celeb’s (or anybody actually) with their tongue stuck out towards the camera, practically inyerface, be it hardened or panting, mostly I think its gross and unpleasant, often think put it away we know where its been.

Boutonnière · 14/08/2025 09:05

I’ve only once ever had a physical recoil reaction to an actor or similar ( without any other aspects like disliking their politics or known unfortunate behaviours) and that is recently with Pedro Pascal. Last year he was suddenly everywhere and I had no idea who he was, seemed to come out of nowhere, but just went momentarily yuck when I saw him.

It’s not that I find Latin/Hispanic appearance unattractive - quite the reverse, it’s a preference normally but something did give me the ick. Then I read about his odd touching costar behaviour at events and felt somewhat vindicated. I speed scroll past him whenever possible.

We all have our own inner instinctive radar which I believe should never be over-ridden and ignored.
As a child, I used to be terrified of a friends' dad - he creeped me out but I never understood why - years later I found out that he was a womaniser and had affairs left, right and centre. His poor wife always looked so downtrodden and sad but she was the loveliest lady ever.
Jimmy Saville was the same for me whenever I saw him on TV and we all know how that turned out. Keir Starmer strikes me as untrustworthy and like a rabbit caught in headlights. Trump is full of his own self importance and strikes me as a bully - not keen on bullies whatever form they take.
For my own ACs and now GCs - I have never let their possibly unreasonable dislikes of any person be ignored. It's an instinctive thing that we all have even if you have no issue with them personally yourself - there is no rhyme or reason to it - it just is what it is!!

HeadDeskHeadDesk · 14/08/2025 09:07

Elaine Page, Ed Milliband, Paddy McGuinness and Rob Beckett for me. Probably loads more but definitely those four off the top of my head.

I used to feel this way about Susannah York as well when I was a kid. I've no idea why but something about her just gave me intense feelings of dislike. She always looked smug and affected and very up herself to me.

Oh and I've just remembered the worst one of all. John McCririck. He used to make my skin crawl and I found myself pulling a face like I'd just smelt something very bad every time I saw him speaking. His mannerisms and the way he moved his hands with all those chunky gold rings on every finger made me recoil in disgust.

Lazygardener · 14/08/2025 09:07

Donald Trump. Especially when he does that concertina thing with his little hands🤮

Boudica70 · 14/08/2025 09:07

Farage and Trump, both make me physically gag.
Steve Mangan, I'm sure he's lovely, but he just makes me feel 🤮

Charabanc · 14/08/2025 09:08

Pedro Pascal. For various reasons, some mentioned on this thread already.

Miriam Margolyes.

Echobelly · 14/08/2025 09:08

The only person I felt a bit like that about was Jimmy Saville, quite appropriately it turned out. There was always something grotesque and creepy about him to me.

CatsMagic · 14/08/2025 09:08

Tootingbec · 14/08/2025 07:20

Pedro Pascal - used to be pretty ambivalent about him then saw him pawing over his female co-stars to manage his “anxiety” and his face now makes me feel 🤢

Yes !! I was going to say this !

And I don’t buy his wide eyed innocent “oh I’m just an ordinary bloke who somehow fell into being a world famous actor but I’m not even sure I should be doing it I am so humble and nervous” shtick either.

Bollocks mate, it’s taken you years of graft and grift to get to where you are stop acting like you’re fucking helpless.

whitewineandsun · 14/08/2025 09:10

Trump. Genuinely can't look at him or hear him speak. All the way back to The Apprentice.

mauvaiseherbe · 14/08/2025 09:10

Thegreyhound · 14/08/2025 07:54

Agree re Dominic West, he seems all a bit too much- too much hair, too much mouth, too craggy!
Kier Starmer makes me feel more shudders though. He is all cold and doughy

cold and doughy! brilliant description

Coffeeishot · 14/08/2025 09:10

Russell Brand has always made me physically recoil, even at the height of his career I couldn't watch anything he was on!

Dontsayyouloveme · 14/08/2025 09:11

Sam Smith, all 3 Beckham boys and Rocco - Madonna’s son.

Sam Smith needs no explanation but the others look greasy and unwashed 🤢

localnotail · 14/08/2025 09:13

That woman on tv with huge black shiny fringe - freaks me out massively. I can never work out why she looks like this.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 14/08/2025 09:15

Martin Freeman. No idea why.

Sesma · 14/08/2025 09:17

Spookyspaghetti · 14/08/2025 08:50

More Keir Starmer bashing. I’d rather bump into him on a cold dark night than BoJo, a man over celebrated in this country despite his open lies and cheating on his wife while in public office. The majority of the Covid era front benches make me sick.

Don't you think his hair looks brylcreemed. Nothing to do with politics.

saraclara · 14/08/2025 09:23

@HeadDeskHeadDesk we clearly have the same ick stimulus. I posted earlier about Sally Phillips and Joanna Lumley. Felicity Kendall is another.

If I try to rationalise it, they all seem to hold their heads the same way and be looking down their noses.

smugmugg · 14/08/2025 09:24

Another vote for celebs that have gone down the filler route - just looks awful!

the filler gives them a doughy mask effect, very uncanny valley.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 14/08/2025 09:25

I have a list, in no particular order
Benidict Cumberbatch
Paddy mcguinnes
Rod Stewart
Ricky Gervaise
Jaime Murray
Jane mcdonald

To name a few of many 😂

Catwalking · 14/08/2025 09:25

Can’t listen to Aled Jones?! He used to be on Classic fm for yrs so i couldn’t listen to that channel 🙁

LittleBitofBread · 14/08/2025 09:25

Jimmy Carr, and Alan Carr (I've nothing against the name itself, honest!) But it's more a feeling of rage than physically sick, I suppose.
I'm sure I've got more who are just not coming to mind right now.

OTOH I quite like a 'wolfish' man...

saraclara · 14/08/2025 09:25

Yes! Claudia Winkleman. There's something about her hair that is opressive to me. Just looking at it makes me uncomfortable.

caramac04 · 14/08/2025 09:26

Oh this thread has made me howl 😂 I do think a gut reaction is self protective and shouldn’t be ignored.
Ed Sheeran - warm wee smell 😂😂😂😂 I hadn’t thought of that but it seems apt and will forever be stuck in my head.
I agree with quite a few, all men for me.
