to have shouted at the woman who told me I should move from a disabled bay?

Am totally livid at this moment, just wondered if you agree with me tho? Have never ever started an aibu thread before.

Parked at Sainsburys in disabled bay, blue badge clearly on windscreen, disabled ds and dd too in back of car.

I got out of driver's door, walked to boot of car to get my handbag out, to be greeted my a torrent of abuse from a woman on crutches in next car.

I explained I was about to unload disabled ds, but she went off on one totally about how i should be parked in Parent and Toddlers as i had kids with me. I said again he was disabled, she then shouted that i should still be parked in M&T!

At that point, afraid i lost it and shouted at her big time to mind her own bloody business and get her facts straight next time. oops

No YANBU

Limara · 30/05/2008 14:43

Maybe she was a bit deaf and didn't hear what you were saying?

I would have been annoyed with her too though!

wrinklytum · 30/05/2008 14:46

yanbu, Hugs

Incidentally,at what age can you child get a disabled car badge,?

Am wondering as dd has frame (2.5 YO) for short distances but gets pushed in pram most places.DP is currently claiming DLA,as is on chemo/steroids and can walk a bit more now but still gets loads of abdo pain so can't go far so just wondering.

MABS · 30/05/2008 14:55

you should apply, think some levels of dla give you an automatic right to one. think ds got it at 3, but not sure, can't rememeber really.

Why even both to argue - much easier to just say whatever and then just go about doing your tasks and ignore her from that point.

MABS · 30/05/2008 16:11

Flashman - much easier to say than do all the time i'm afraid.

she may have a psychiatric disoprder to go with ther physical problems.

CilC · 30/05/2008 17:21

The cathartic relief is in itself is sufficient reason to argue back. Plus so sick of people saying and doing nothing when people are rude. People should know that it is not acceptable.
And I am sorry going around thinking I must not say something because s/he may have a psychiatric problem is just pandering.
As I said before I am happy for someone to ask if they see me out with my mother, but I do not like the assumed guilty attack.

MABS · 30/05/2008 17:23

totally agree Cilc, well said

i have lost count re the number of times i have parked up in a disabled bay, put the badge on display, and got out, to be glared at and scrutinised by someone assuming i have no right to be there, until i open the boot and bring out ds2's wheelchair

it happened the other day when i took him for a hospital appointment. i had a friend with me , and we were laughing at the old lady in the car behind, and her visible disappointment that she could not challenge my need to be parked where i was, once she saw the wheelchair

I am the one who looks for car seat in P&T and give lovely looks hehe, but would never say anything what a cow

madhairday · 31/05/2008 16:19

YA totally NBU. Ignorant woman.
I'm in the process of getting blue badge as just got awarded high rate mobility DLA. But I'll doubtless get comments as my disability is not obvious. Think will have to ask them if they would like to swap lungs or something along those lines, or just learn to ignore the ignorant twats.
Riven, am at that response, unbelievable.

MintPattie · 31/05/2008 21:16

We have a Blue Badge for our 3.5yo DD and like Sidge we often get querying looks when we park in a disabled bay (I also have a few comments ready to rip if necessary)

We're still using a normal buggy rather than a wheelchair, so where possible I use general parking so that more physically challenged people can use the disabled parks which are often (but not always) closer

At a local supermarket it often easier to get a parent and child park than a disabled park (I often wonder how many of those Blue Badges are legit here in London?)

lou33 · 02/06/2008 15:20

oh well i had a run in today at sainsburys

i was pulling into a disabled bay with ds2, and some old dear pushed her trolley right across the front of my car to get the her one in the next space

then she stood at the back of her car watching me as i got out, then said loud enough for me to hear, to her h " i am just waiting to see which one of them are disabled"

i turned to her and said, "don't worry love, it's my youngest, look his wheelchair is in the boot and the blue badge is on the fron of the car. I dont park in disabled bays if i am not disabled"

She look a bit taken aback, but i felt like i had to add more, so i said " unfortunately my son cannot walk at all unlike some with blue badges"

Then she scuttled into her car and i stalked off

Btw, she could see the badge on display before she passed comment

YANBU
she is a toss bag.

as an aside...do the elder;ly get badges just for being old?
there seems to be a great number around here witgh badges but no visible disability, they are just old.

and they are always the ones that make the funny comments or give dirty looks
