To want to put a fan in 2 year olds room?

Hi all,

Trying to navigate the hot temperature with a toddler and my 8 day old! Feeling fine about the newborn sleep guidelines - but I'm really worried for my 2 year old. His room is currently 25 degrees and he has a t shirt and shorts on, throw has been kicked off. He really feels the heat but likes to wear pyjamas of some sort. Can you put a fan in a 2 year olds room? I'm thinking not facing directly at him (on his drawers slightly facing away from him) and on a low setting, just enough to give him a little bit of a breeze, but I can't remember if I've read something about not using fans in children's bedrooms? I get so nervous about all this so any experience would be really appreciated, thank you! 😊

I put mine on landing with gate closed but door open just to get some air movement

Of course you can. Just dont put it where they can knock it over.

I have 2 fans currently in my 7mo DDs room as it's reading as over 29°. I know they advise against fans in babys rooms but I'm sure they advise against heatstroke too! Her room is sweltering and even with the fans on it feels like there is no air in there at the moment. I wouldn't think twice about putting one in a 2 year olds room as long as they couldn't access it

Our 10 month old is in with us and our fan is well out of reach of her and on full blast otherwise we would all be suffocating. She’s in a nappy and vest and she’s kicked her thin blanket off her.

Of course you can, just make sure it’s well out of reach (including cable).

I have a 2.5yo and we have the fan on full blast here. Not sure why you can’t ?

I never heard anything about not putting fans in babies rooms. What’s the concern about it? I put fans in my kids rooms as soon as the weather was hot enough to require it, which will have been their first summer. It never occurred to me not to. I’m curious to know what the danger is.

I think the advice about fans is not to have them constantly face on for babies as they can't regulate their body temperature properly and will get too cold, but oscillating is fine? That's what we've always done. Plus by 2yo they'll just complain if they're too cold!

Thank you so much everyone, going in to put the fan on now! As some PPs have said, it's something about regulating temperature but I think I've only remembered that part and not that a 2 year old knows how to complain and would usually tell me if he's cold 😅

The reason not to do it is because airways are small and it can make breathing difficult. Just make sure it's not direct at them.
