Brady / Hindley

So I like the name Hindley for a boy -Wuthering Heights Hindely Earnshaw is my associate, but obviously I hate the Myra connection.

It also got me thinking, why is Brady such a popular name but Hindley just isn't and many people probably aren't aware it is a real forename.

I reported the thread to MN.
But MN obviously think OP has the right to have a laugh about child murderers .
Disgraceful.

Yeah it's gross and people are answering it in earnest. Like oh no it sounds like a serial killer.

Op is such a troll. Why do you do it?

Troll hunting is not allowed.
Once again, it is not a joke.

@Glindy so what's your point of this thread.
You want to name a future baby of yours Hindley? Is that it?
Then my answer is still "no" as I think it's a clunky name that sounds like (or is 🤔) a surname and just isn't very nice sounding.

ConfusedSloth · 11/08/2025 21:08

I don't understand why people are accusing OP of being a troll or trying to be funny. It's not like this question hasn't come up before (why Myra Hindley is more infamous than Ian Brady and the offshoots of that).

My point was more around misogyny.

Yeah.....I don't think it's that.
People wouldn't use it as a name not because of her - but because it's a terrible name for a first name.

PurpleFlower1983 · 11/08/2025 21:14

I wouldn’t do it.

Plus, Hindley Earnshaw is a horrible character.

Well it should be. I'm not troll hunting. It's insulting to people who've lost their kids.

Isxmasoveryet · 11/08/2025 21:16

Needmorelego · 11/08/2025 21:19

Edited

I said who it was. But also, Google.

It's not even a nice sounding name.

Ok.... I will.
I thought this was a conversation though 🤔

tripleginandtonic · 11/08/2025 21:40

Hareton is probably a better bet.

Needmorelego · 11/08/2025 21:43

@Glindy ok apologies I see you said the character is from Wuthering Heights.
I've never read it (or watched a telly/film version) so it sort of went over my head.
Anyway.... having read the character description - I think it really doesn't sound like a nice name to use because that character sounds horrible.

TofuEater · 11/08/2025 21:48

Hindley Earnshaw is a drunken bully. Why would anyone name a child after him

kim204 · 11/08/2025 22:01

In 50 years and working in numerous schools I've never met a single Brady. It seems it's an Irish name though so may be more popular there. Hindley is only a surname - apart from a fictional character - as far as i can see.

Glindy · 11/08/2025 20:31

It wasn't trying to be funny, but im surprised nobody things its misogyny - she was no more abhorrent than him.

But she had a more distinctive name.

Not everything is misogyny
Very over used on here.
