Carpet clean up

Any advice please.
Toddler grandchild is currently potty training. Obviously a few accidents. These are cleaned up and the carpet has been fully shampooed a couple of times. But the urine smell still lingers. Tried spot cleaner, scrubbing with plain water, carpet fresh powder and bicarbonate, not all at once of course 🙂

Any advice?
It smells ok for a couple of hours and then the waft returns.

It may be because the underlay has been soaked. This releases a urine smell.

Mix vinegar, dish soap, dash of oxiclean. Work it in well with a brush, then hoover out. Then heap bicarb on top and leave it 24 hours before hoovering that out too, before brushing back down.

This is how I dealt with chocolate vomit on a white carpet and often how I successfully pre-treat laundry stains (minus the hoovering!). Fingers crossed for you.

As it sounds, the smell persists because the urine has soaked into the carpet padding. Enzyme-based cleaners work best, as they break down the odor-causing proteins. You may need to treat the area multiple times. If the smell is deep in the padding, professional carpet cleaners with hot water extraction can remove it with ease.
