I don't know if I could afford to move out of the family home even though I work

Background to my situation is that I am in my mid 20's and I am a supply teacher who has not yet managed to get a permanent or even temporary job which is not through an agency.

I live with my parents and get on with them very well, however I am craving my own place and independence.

Is it affordable to live alone when working as a supply teacher? Obviously the goal is not to be a supply teacher for much longer but equally I can't snap my fingers and all of a sudden get a job.

I am also single so I don't the help of a partner in being able to afford to move out.

I guess it will be a lot easier if you consider a houseshare.

I had a room in a shared house until I was 32. I had so much fun honestly. Any reason you don’t like that idea?

Depends on how regular and reliable your income is.
Also the cost of renting in your area.

You don’t want to commit to a £900 rental plus bills then only earn £700 in a month.

Are there other parts of the country where it would be more affordable and you'd be more likely to find a permanent job?

It's possible that the ease of staying at home is limiting your options. Maybe cast the net wider with the jobs you are applying for, it sounds like you are ready for a fresh start.

I have never managed to live alone - lived in a house share until my 30s and my DH and I moved in together.

Depends what you earn and the cost of renting in your area. Central London, probably not feasible.

Supply is so changeable. It’s not reliable at all.
