To send a letter from the tooth fairy but no money?

Dc wanted a visit from the tooth fairy so spent about 24 hours wobbling and wobbling a slightly wobbly tooth to make it come out.
Tooth fairy came and brought money but told them to be careful not to get rid of teeth before they’re ready!

They’ve done it again with a tooth that wasn’t wobbly before the other one came out but now they had access they went at it until it came out. It wasn’t ready and they had to really yank it out but they are so desperate for another tooth fairy visit.

Aibu to send a letter from the tooth fairy but no money this time?

I haven’t made up my mind either way. I’ve talked to friends in RL and some have said no way should I leave money and some have said I should. I don’t want dc to do it again.

YABU: leave money
YANBU: don’t leave any money

Any suggestions on what should go in the letter to warn them off doing it again?

Just give your son some money. I remember wobbling my teeth like crazy till they came out when I was a kid.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 08/08/2025 17:12

I wouldn't write a letter. Just tell them the tooth fairy didn't come because she knew the tooth was deliberately pulled out.

Tooth fairies can come to a tooth that's deliberately pulled. Just give them money; they'll get less later, so it evens out.

One of my dc had a lad in her form who was missing his front 4 teeth for most of year R and 1 because he'd wobbled them out. It made no difference in the long run.

Tell him that well kept teeth get more money and make the most of him brushing well.

Sherunswithwolves · 08/08/2025 17:14

I'd leave the money but with a friendly letter that says the next tooth can't be rushed... the tooth fairy is watching!

BunnyLake · 08/08/2025 17:14

My son did the same thing and he has lovely straight teeth. As a kid I left them and my teeth are crooked. If that helps 🤷‍♀️

Teenagerantruns · 08/08/2025 17:15

Well they cant pull out teeth that are not ready to come out, just give the money.

AyaMaua · 08/08/2025 17:17

If he’s brave enough to yank it out I’d pay him double. Never understood this nonsense with letters. The kid wants the cash not the magic.

businessflop25 · 08/08/2025 17:19

I don’t think it’s that unusual that one tooth coming out starts the process of another becoming wobbly? So I think it’s a bit unfair to say it’s their fault! They probably don’t like the feel of it being wobbly.

I think they'll think being paid double is magic 🤣

Isn't wobbling your teeth out for the pound coin the whole idea of the tooth fairy?

Helpmeplease2025 · 08/08/2025 17:23

Surely you can’t wobble out a tooth that wasn’t ready to come out?

Just give them the money, it saves you later; it’s no different in total.

Laura95167 · 08/08/2025 21:09

Id send a letter saying sorry I cant pay you for this one because it wasnt ready. But I look forward to mu next visit when youre ready

Thank you! That’s what’I’ve done and wrapped it up in ribbon so it’s still special!

But it was ready!! The tooth would not have come out if it wasn’t!!!

It really isn’t special if there’s no money there - using the tooth fairy to discipline your child is next level madness. If the tooth wasn’t ready he wouldn’t have been able to wobble it out.

Liliwen · 08/08/2025 23:26

Why does it matter if the tooth is wobbled out a bit early? The big tooth will still come up

FromanEmpire · 08/08/2025 23:28

I'd leave the tooth there and a note saying it's not ready yet and she'll collect it when it is. Wait a few days, then swap the tooth for the money. Then DC will learn that getting the tooth out early doesn't mean getting the money early - and DC will have wasted the tooth fairy's time too!

It can damage the adult tooth or the gum.

Just give the money. You don't want them scared to wobble future ones at all trying to keep them under threat of missing out on the money. Sometimes an awkward one really needs to be helped along.

ETA sorry @FromanEmpire , didn't mean to quote you. FWIW I think your idea is much better than leaving nothing.

edwinbear · 08/08/2025 23:35

13 yr old DD had to have 4 adult teeth extracted by the dentist before she had braces fitted. She was a bloody (pun intended) trooper over it and made a joke about whether the tooth fairy was going to come that night. I stuck £20 under her pillow and a ‘note’ from the tooth fairy saying adult teeth were worth more 🤣.

Your DC’s baby teeth will come out, does it really matter if they wobble them out a bit earlier than intended? I guarantee from DD’s experience, it’s not easy getting teeth out that don’t want to come out!

JamDisaster · 08/08/2025 23:39

Don’t all kids wobble them out? Just give them the money, no dicking about with notes.

deedee99 · 08/08/2025 23:43

Teeth get wobbly when the adult teeth behind them start pushing them out. If it's wobbly, it's ready. I think you're being massively ott here.

10p more than OP’s planning to give.
