Help - quick holiday question

gobshite23 · 07/08/2025 22:26

We go on holiday at the end of the month. Package deal via Jet2 to a Spanish island. At the time of booking we opted for half board but we’re now thinking all inclusive will be more cost effective.

We’re hoping that when we check into the hotel we can request to upgrade to AI and pay the difference there and then. Has anyone done this? Is it usually ok?

Depends if the hotel does AI not all do.
but if they probably possible.

we went half board and I asked about upgrading to full board (no AI) and it was extortionate

I’ve tried to do it via Jet2 online but they said upgrades aren’t available online and we’d need to ring them. The hotel does offer AI. I have no idea how much it would be to upgrade at this point and wish we’d just selected that option in the first place.

Yes not done it but met a few people who did it. Some just for a few days of the holiday. As long as the hotel does it I am sure they will be happy to.
We go to the same hotel every January, just for the sun. Worked out that ai saves a couple of hundred that's with just pricing for coffee, soft drinks, snacks, let alone a few drinks especially cocktails

There are normally Facebook groups specific to that hotel if you search for them, could you ask the question of there to get an idea of cost?

We recently went half board and found it fairly cost effective. We opted for a ‘late’ breakfast which did us really till teatime. We went to the supermarket and grabbed pasties for lunch which put us on till dinner (they were really cheap- pence!). We took a cool bag (which looked like a beach bag!) from home and took our own drinks around the pool in ‘stanley’ style cups. If we wanted a beer, we’d buy one and replenish via the cool bag! I took a few bags of sweets and snacks (pot noodles /mug shots for kids from home). It was a cheeky week hence the frugality, but we had a fantastic time!

Email the hotel directly and ask them.

It's a known hack to get AI a bit cheaper, so it's definitely possible, but only at hotels that offer AI.

Phone jet2. We upgraded/ changed room recently though speaking with them after it said it couldn’t be done online.
