PP weight gain

Gave birth mid 2024, I actually lost weight (7kg) immediately after giving birth. Now I am 10kg higher than my final trimester - how??
I feel awful, just horrible.
I want to lose weight again, but I am so sleep deprived, I am running on a rubbish diet with no help around me, I am constantly snacking to give myself energy. To get to a healthy weight I actually need to lose 15kg :(
Just feel so gross and embarrassed of myself

Don’t worry - I was in the same boat!
after 3 months pp I quickly lost 7lbs then plateaud seemingly forever … did WeightWatchers to no effect, lowers the points, no effect. I very gradually lost about 4more lbs.
I blame breastfeeding.
now at 7months pp I feel like I could finally shift some through excercise and diet. I stopped weighing it was depressing. But I’m back in a size 12.
hanging there and ignore people who say it melted off for them after 10 minutes with no effort. Everyone’s different.
things will improve. The scales tell me I still have 1.5atone to lose to get back pre pregnancy but I feel much better than I did.
hope thatbhelps. ❤️

This happened to me and it turned out my thyroid had stopped working. I put on 10 lb in 6 weeks immediately after birth. I was only eating normally too. Other symptoms I had was my hair got very thin, I was really constipated and my skin was very dry. I ached a lot. I was very tired. I just thought it was because I was breastfeeding and up in the night with my baby and up early with toddler.

Thank you- I actually wondered if this could be the case as I have also lost an eyebrow and my body aches like it never had before

You need to book in for a blood test. It's the only way to know for sure. It took almost a year before I felt better because they start you off on 25 mg of Levothyroxine then you have to wait about 4 months before another test. Then they put it up to 50 mg then wait another 4 months then 75 mg then another 4 months after that I was put on 100mg and remained on that dose until menopause. Throughout that year I put on more and more weight and felt truly dreadful. I didn't really get to enjoy my baby because I was so tired all the time. After I was on 100mg I gradually felt better and stopped putting on weight. The weight I had put on was very stubborn to lose though. I went from a size 10 when I got pregnant to an 18 after the first year.

I agree that you need a blood test. Pregnancies messed up my thyroid completely.

You kinda answered your own question " I am so sleep deprived, I am running on a rubbish diet with no help around me, I am constantly snacking to give myself energy."
Sleep actually has quite a role apparently! But also, I know some say you lose weight from breastfeeding but my body has always held onto a little when feeding, I read it can be sort of just in case you were to need it, and then I lose it after weaning.

I was at my heaviest when my 3rd child was 3. I was extended breastfeeding which can make it hard to lose weight and probably eating too much. I found the weight fell off when I stopped breastfeeding and started working as a house cleaner
