Am I being unreasonable to ask you how you coped with feeling like you lost yourself during pregnancy?

I’m 26, and 28 weeks pregnant with twins. My husband and I have a 4 year old daughter, and my husband is amazing. He’s changed his work schedule around to do the nursery run, he does dinner, bath time, bedtime, because I’m just exhausted after work. I get in, eat dinner and cuddle with our little girl and I’m ready for bed.

But I feel like I’ve lost so much of my identity lately. I’m a very hands on mum, but that’s bene curtailed because of my pregnancy. Add into it all the aches and pains and everything else, and I just feel like I’m a completely different person. I know when the babies are here I’ll feel like myself again, but I’m just feeling so down about myself at the moment. How did you cope?

I was the same as you OP, I didn't really enjoy being pregnant - I was sick for months and then just felt sick. I had sciatica and awful heartburn and just wanted to sleep. Didn't have the energy to be a fun mum to my other children. It must be even harder carrying twins!

I think it helps a bit to accept that pregnancy is hard on the body and be kind to yourself as much as you can. Don't feel bad for needing more rest and finding shortcuts wherever you can. Cuddle up with your daughter and watch a movie or tv shows that she likes or read her favourite books together - you don't have to be running around with her to make her feel loved and secure. Let dad do the energetic stuff for a while. It feels like a long slog but in a matter of weeks you will have your babies. Plan some pampering treats for the postpartum period to give you something to look forward to. Hang in there mumma, growing two little humans is an amazing feat! 💐
