We are hoping to upsize in the next year or so and should have about £50,000 in equity. I know it depends what our budget is for a new house however how much would you recommend to have in savings before moving?

Work out your stamp duty, estate agent fees, moving fees, legal and conveyancing fees, keep a pot behind for emergencies plus 3-6 months living costs incase anyone loses their job.

Stamp duty - you have to pay this as a buyer and kicks in on properties over £125,099
estate agent fees
removals
conveyancing
incidentals
surveys

That could all add up to £50k plus
