To cancel our Wembley trip?

Firstly, this genuinely isn’t because someone really sadly fell and died from the upper tier on Saturday night, although it’s brought the issue to mind much more.

We’ve got Coldplay tickets for later this month at Wembley for the four of us (DC are 11 and 9). Thought it would be an amazing first concert for them, they’ve enjoyed Coldplay at Glastonbury and the crowd are generally quite chilled.

Our seats are in the 500s/upper tier. I had already warned the kids it’s high but that it’ll be amazing to see the stadium and all the lights etc. As we get closer to the date, I’m really thinking it’s a mistake - both my kids are not great with heights and tbh, neither am I but I’ve been in a situation where I’ve had to deal with it and ended up enjoying myself regardless.

I’ve read that sometimes staff at Wembley have been able to move people but I don’t think I could rely on that as an option! What would you do?

IABU - don’t cancel, go and see what it’s like and you might all enjoy it

IANBU - sell the tickets and catch them another time

Do your tickets have the warning about not being suitable for those afraid of heights on them?

BanningTheWordNaice · 05/08/2025 08:12

I was pleasantly surprised by how not steep the top level of Wembley felt compared to the o2 - admittedly I was in row 7 of the 500s.

Inchworms · 05/08/2025 08:13

Give it a go, thousands and thousands of people sit there and seem to have a great time. If you get to your seats and freak out, see if a steward can help. The view will be amazing, I’ve sat up there for Coldplay and it was great

FlowersandElephants · 05/08/2025 08:23

I was in the 500s for Taylor Swift last year and it’s absolutely fine, doesn’t feel steep or high at all.

Ub12 · 05/08/2025 08:25

Wembley is not that steep. You all will be fine. I’ve been all the way at the top for a football game with my kid and it was not a problem even though I’m scared of heights.

Ilovethatforyou · 05/08/2025 08:29

This is making me feel a bit better, thank you. the kids have been really looking forward to it, I just didn’t want them to sit frozen in fear!

@Readyforseptember they don’t seem to-I’ve just checked through the T’s and Cs.

@BanningTheWordNaice i have sat at the back of the o2 - I did manage to stand up and dance a bit (feet glued to floor) but oh my god, the height!!

Don't miss out on a wonderful opportunity for you and your children. Going to a concert at Wembley is a fantastic experience

Ilovethatforyou · 05/08/2025 08:33

@Katflapkit thats it - I really wanted to give them a great experience. I also do want to teach them it’s ok to feel the fear and do it anyway… DS is quite sensitive and easily overwhelmed. I didn’t want to stress him out.

Have you tried the view from my seat sites? That might give your kids a better idea.

Ilovethatforyou · 05/08/2025 08:55

@NewsdeskJC i did show them a little while ago, mainly because my daughter had visions of being within touching distance of Chris Martin 😁. So I wanted to manage expectations that he would be a little dot. They both were a bit worried about the height.

I saw Dua Lipa recently with my Dd (13) and a few of her friends and was up quite high, it really didn’t feel it and I didn’t feel rammed in. I would go as the kids will love the atmosphere and am sure Coldplay will put on an excellent show.

jetlag92 · 05/08/2025 09:02

I don't like heights and there's no way I'd sit up there!

Bonsaibaby · 05/08/2025 09:05

I was almost on the highest row for Taylor swift and I don’t like heights but I didn’t feel unsafe of like I could fall anywhere.
what I didn’t like was the crowd after to get to the tube. It was managed but I felt bad for dd surrounded by taller people when she was already tired. Maybe leave slightly before the end to avoid crowds.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 05/08/2025 09:11

I'm scared of heights and was terrified at the 02 Arena, but not at Wembley. It doesn't feel particularly high or overly steep, even in the high seats.

Once they are sat down, they'll be fine. If you are two adults, one go at the front and one at the back going up the steps with them in the middle. If just you, go behind them so they feel secure.

Enjoy!

Harrumphhhh · 05/08/2025 09:12

I sat high up for Taylor Swift and for the Euros final. When you very first step out of the stairwell into the stadium, it feels high, but once you’re in your seat and surrounded by people, it really doesn’t. Just take a deep breath as you come out of the tunnel, turn away from the arena (towards the seats) as you find your place, then relax once you’re there.

As someone else said, the crowd for the tube is more overwhelming! Again, just take it easy. Deep breaths, accept that it will take ages, enjoy the atmosphere (there will be lots of singing in the crowd!)

My neice (age 27) saw Oasis at Wembley
Sat up high. No issue.
But she did get covered in beer as did everyone around her
People got very drunk/stoned, hence the throwing of beer
This was a Friday evening

NOTANUM · 05/08/2025 09:18

I was in the same section a week ago - different night - and can’t understand what happened at all. The show was over and the fireworks aren’t that easy to see from the section. But you’d still need to be leaning over an entrance door or sector railing quite unnaturally in order to fall.

It was a lovely seat and my first time in the upper tiers but didn’t feel “high” at all. Yet I feel weird when I’m in certain seats in the theatre.

Go and have a great time!

mamagogo1 · 05/08/2025 09:19

Sat there many times, it doesn’t feel high once it’s full of people, unless you are in the front row you are sandwiched in, i would suggest waiting until it’s filling up rather than going in when it’s empty though. Coldplay are really chill

How awful.

She thought it was hilarious! I was really glad that I wasn't there!

NewsdeskJC · 05/08/2025 09:45

Id say that Oasis was quite civilised if all dneice got was beer chucked over her. Back in the day it was a different amber liquid.....
Coldplay different vibe!

IamnotSethRogan · 05/08/2025 09:52

my son is not great with heights and we've been to stadium gigs and high up and it never even occurred to any of us this might be an issue.

It's a gradual incline so it's not like you're looking over an edge which is whats generally triggering for most people.

LittleBobbyDazzler · 05/08/2025 10:02

Never been to Wembley but I have been up in the gods at Twickenham with DH who doesn't like heights either. Coming out of the concourse into the seating area was fine as was being seated, turning around half way up the stairs made my head spin and no idea why, I almost fell over 😂 DH said the same but ultimately was fine seated / stood. I think they'll be fine especially when the concert starts.

BlokeHereInPeace · 05/08/2025 10:06

Sat up there a few times, it's fine. You aren't in any way vulnerable to falling or anything.

Oh, and use Wembley Stadium station for the trains to and from Marylebone rather than Wembley Park.

FatherFrosty · 05/08/2025 10:11

Wembley is so much better than other stadiums for steepness. think how many events are held there, and how many times this has happened?

Go, you’ll have a wonderful time.

whilst Saturdays events are incredibly sad, as someone who has been multiple times to Wembley I can’t work out what went wrong. It is just incredibly sad.
