To cancel our Wembley trip?

Firstly, this genuinely isn’t because someone really sadly fell and died from the upper tier on Saturday night, although it’s brought the issue to mind much more.

We’ve got Coldplay tickets for later this month at Wembley for the four of us (DC are 11 and 9). Thought it would be an amazing first concert for them, they’ve enjoyed Coldplay at Glastonbury and the crowd are generally quite chilled.

Our seats are in the 500s/upper tier. I had already warned the kids it’s high but that it’ll be amazing to see the stadium and all the lights etc. As we get closer to the date, I’m really thinking it’s a mistake - both my kids are not great with heights and tbh, neither am I but I’ve been in a situation where I’ve had to deal with it and ended up enjoying myself regardless.

I’ve read that sometimes staff at Wembley have been able to move people but I don’t think I could rely on that as an option! What would you do?

IABU - don’t cancel, go and see what it’s like and you might all enjoy it

IANBU - sell the tickets and catch them another time

I was going to say, perhaps best to leave just a bit early so you aren't crowded on the steps, you can listen to them anyway on the way down but I see you are.

Enter your seat number into google with Wembley Stadium and it may come up with a view from your seat. Or one nearby

Almondmarcd · 05/08/2025 19:51

I wouldn’t go, but that’s because it’s Coldplay.

Other than that I’d go, see how it is, leave if you think it’s not safe / suitable.

We were all stood up dancing in section 503 / row 17 for Oasis & it was fine.

we are in 501 / 37 for Coldplay 🙂

I vote you that you are being unreasonable. Unless your children's behaviour has been awful, no child deserves to be forced to watch Coldplay.

🙄

This thread has inspired me to buy Coldplay tickets for 30 Aug. AccordIng to VIAGOGO, resale prices are at their lowest for 7 days. DH and DS v excited.

We were 511, row 22 last year for Greenday. We were fine up until a drunk guy in front of us got up to dance, fell over and landed on the people below him, knocking them out of their seats. He was hauled back up but to be honest, there's a reason why it says no standing on the upper tiers. After that, everyone in our section was very unsettled and it ruined the rest of the gig. We'll never take seats in the 500s again. It's not the height, it's the unpredictable, twattish behaviour of drunks making it dangerous for everyone else.

If your DC are easily overwhelmed Wembley is a huge venue with 90,000 capacity (and loud) so not an ideal environment, especially if they are not already very used to concerts.

Arriving and leaving early will be helpful not to be in a sea of people.

Coldplay will likely be fairly sedate in terms of crowd behaviour.

Agree with PP the high navigation to and from your seats could be a bit hair raising but fine once you’re sat down.

starafuzina · 05/08/2025 21:13

It is steep and I wouldn’t want to be on those tiers if people were drunk and jostly. But as others have said, really rare for an accident like that to happen. The whole area around Wembley has a strong security presence now and you can’t have alcohol in the street or wander about with it. I think for Coldplay you will be fine. Taking your kids to a gig at a stadium will be a magical experience for all of you!
