Travel whilst pregnant to Carribean or Africa

Hi,

My partner is itching to book a holiday in Feb 2026. We are due to start IVF over the next few weeks so I’m hoping I will be pregnant by then.

i don’t want to book anything because I’d be scared about any vaccinations I might need or the risks of Zika virus or anything else.

Hes pressuring me to book something. Am I being silly or over dramatic?

I wouldn’t go to the Caribbean while pregnant because of Zika.

South Africa is Zika free and nice in February.

I had friends who were considering their travel options the year before they began trying for a baby, so no youre not being dramatic or unreasonable.

Maybe he doesn't understand the implications? Book somewhere less risky

You are not being over dramatic at all. Imagine risking the health of your baby forever just for a holiday. Go somewhere else!

Thank you. He wants to go to Peru it’s his dream. I’ve said to him to go for 2 weeks and we can go away for the weekend somewhere.

im 40 so this could be our only chance.

You could compromise and get the necessary vaccines now before you get pregnant and then still be able to go to somewhere further afield. Once you've had kids it is unlikely you'll be going anywhere that far flung for a while! My partner and I love travel but the furthest we have been since we had kids is Greece :/ make the most of it now OP while you can. Our first born was a happy accident but we both felt a little sad that we wouldn't be able to travel more together until kids are older. You have no idea how much a baby changes your life and your relationship.
I would like other posters have said avoid any Zika affected areas though.
I went to Vietnam when I was pregnant and I'm so glad I went as well have lovely memories. 😊

@Discoprincess6 Have a look at this site. You can enter whichever country you are thinking of travelling to.

I wouldn’t book anything at the moment. There’s always availability somewhere at short notice and often they are bargains - you can then tailor you trip depending on whether you are pregnant or taking a holiday before another round of ivf
