Comments about second pregnancy

My DD is 15 months and I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant, I have had lots of comments such as ‘oh not again’ or ‘wow that’s fast’ like it’s a bad thing, is it that hard to believe I planned a close age gap as that’s what I wanted for my children? Really annoys me.

So what, the age gap between your children will be about 20 months?

That is a completely unremarkable age gap. The gap between mine is 21 months and it's been brilliant.

Small age gaps are incredibly common and yours isn't even that small. A friend of mine was pregnant again at her 6 week check.

I have a similar age gap and got lots of comments when I was pregnant with my second - now they are 10 and 8 it’s unremarkable and lots of their friends at school have similar sibling age gaps. There are two boys in my son’s class who are brothers but not twins (one born in September the other in July) and their Mum does get people commenting often.

The only time I get comments now is when their ages are a year apart for a few months and they’re just jokey ‘you didn’t hang around’ comments.

There was a four and a half year age gap between my brother and me. We had no relationship until I was around 18 and he was 14. I used to be so envious of my friends who had siblings close to their age.

And before you were pregnant, I bet you had loads of people asking when you were going to have a second child?

Mine are 12&14 now. Sometimes I still wonder if we were crazy but overall we have never regretted it.

Late pregnancy with a toddler was hard work though. But it was fine after the baby was born.

18 month age gap between my two eldest - they’ve been best friends for life. 18 months between me and my DB too and we are pretty close. Nothing wrong with kids close together, it’s not unreasonable. My DH is only 11 months younger than his DS - now that was close together but who cares. You do you.

People just make strange comments when you’re pregnant as they don’t know what to say.

When I was telling people I was pregnant with my second, with a 2.5 year age gap, multiple people asked if it was planned - which seemed bizarre to me!

I don’t think people really give a flying shit about the age gap between your kids. it’s just naff small talk.

You care a lot more about you being pregnant then they do. Forget it.
