AIBU to have a glass of wine now?

I’m at home alone with the kids (age 5 and 7). I’ve spent all morning doing the garden but there’s lots more to do. House could also do with a tidy, but I’m shattered and bored. Would it be wrong just to say screw it and pour a glass of rose? Or is it too early?

way too early in my book!

bostonchamps · 03/08/2025 13:21

I'm having one as I get Sunday lunch ready!

Me too!

HundredMilesAnHour · 03/08/2025 13:22

It’s after 11am so pubs are open so that means it’s fine! Lots of people will be drinking wine with their Sunday lunches by now. Enjoy!

MyUmberSeal · 03/08/2025 13:22

Yep, got for it, Sunday lunch time is a perfect time for a tipple. Enjoy.

MagneticSquirrel · 03/08/2025 13:22

It’s already lunchtime! Of course it’s fine!

MyLimeGuide · 03/08/2025 13:23

Do it 😊

Mrsttcno1 · 03/08/2025 13:23

As long as you’d just be having one and not planning on finishing the bottle before dinner or anything then I say if you want one then have one!

My gran used to have an ice cold glass of wine in her hand while she cooked the Sunday dinner every week and said it was her little Sunday ritual.

Now I quite fancy one, but at 6 months pregnant it’s a no for me 😂

Abra1t · 03/08/2025 13:25

It’s Sunday lunchtime so it’s a good time for a glass of wine.

Ryeman · 03/08/2025 13:25

Not too early, but if it was me I’d regret it - I’d get sleepy and the afternoon would then be a write off!

TwilightSkies · 03/08/2025 13:27

If you’re shattered, drinking won’t help.
Id tidy the house then do something else to relax.

EdisinBurgh · 03/08/2025 13:28

Perfectly normal to have wine with lunch here as in many other European countries!

Unfortunately for me it’d mean a non productive afternoon in terms of chores I have to do, but seeing as you’ve achieved a lot this morning that might be fine for you!

surreylife · 03/08/2025 13:50

We’re not eating til 5 today, which is another consideration…

To early for me especially with the kids about.

healthybychristmas · 03/08/2025 14:30

Tidy the house, get the food ready and when the kids are in bed, have a drink. Don't be one of those mums who sits drinking in the daytime while their kids are nearby.

murasaki · 03/08/2025 14:32

I poured one at half time while watching DP's football team on the telly. It helped....

Pickingmyselfup · 03/08/2025 14:37

I've just sat down with one now, I've been busy since I got up this morning so it's my first chance for a sit down. My children (8 and 10) are also in the house (so is my husband but that wouldn't matter since I'm not steaming)

Nobody cares what I'm drinking.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 03/08/2025 16:16

It's 6 o'clock somewhere in the world op, knock yourself out!

surreylife · 03/08/2025 20:52

Had a glass at 3.45pm after completing a few more chores. It was lovely.
