+1
Sometimes only the 😆 reaction will do.

saraclara · 02/08/2025 18:33

So make your next post a LOL emoji. Or quote and LOL. I don't get the problem.

Because doing that fills up posts needlessly?

BIWI · 02/08/2025 18:48

Unfortunately, it was being misused too often for it to be brought back.

No one wants a thread full of laughing emojis do they?

What’s misused though? That’s a matter of opinion surely. In most cases if someone takes offence then surely whether the reactor meant to cause offence is up for debate.

There were several posts on Site Stuff about it. It definitely wasn’t just a matter of opinion! And MNHQ monitored how it was being used for some time before they took the decision to remove it.

Unfortunately too many really nasty posters here.

Encrochat · 02/08/2025 18:51

(sorry, I had to)

RightOnTheEdge · 03/08/2025 10:01

Yeah, it's a shame that some nasty posters spoiled it for everyone.

lljkk · 03/08/2025 10:06

Yeah my heart reactions are doing a lot of heavy lifting nowadays.

Someone on Facebook was on some neurotic spiral about a trivial issue. I laughed at her... omg did she explode. My reaction was in middle of about 50 others but she zoomed in demanding why I found her funny and tiraded at length at me. She didn't appreciate the honesty at all.

I was completely with you until that comment.

Im that twat and I’m not ashamed. I used that little emoji to belittle some of the crap people spouted out, to stop a debate which wasn’t going anywhere. I miss being able to use it for exactly the reason it was banned.

GarlicLitre · 03/08/2025 11:21

That, too, @Sometimeswinning. On the Site Stuff threads, though, there seemed to be lots of posts about people who'd suffered heart-rending bereavements and had received a laugh react.

I know that devastating life events can leave you feeling very fragile, and it makes sense to ask for support on a forum you know well. However fragile you may be, though, there's going to be someone being a bit of a dick. If you're THAT upset by a little yellow face sent by a complete stranger, no Web forum is a safe enough space for you, surely?

I disagree that we're all accountable to some people's inability to let a trivial reaction pass them by.

I was 'called out' a couple of times for laughing at someone's impassioned post about something or other. At least two of those times, they'd used a very witty turn of phrase and that's why I lolled. Evidently, they were funnier than they knew (or just stirring, who can tell?) If I wanted to be a prat about it now, I could reply highlighting their witty phrase ... which would be even more annoying than repeatedly quoting funny posts with a 😂 as the anti-laughter brigade seem to think more acceptable!

Grrr ...

Helpmeplease2025 · 03/08/2025 11:22

I agree. The fragile gang got it deleted.

EchoedSilence · 03/08/2025 11:25

I miss it too. We need a campaign to get it reinstated.
