I’ve never been. 8 year old is pretty tough and handled Jurassic park rebirth this weekend. Will it be ok?

There’s SO much else you can do in London why even think about this? My DDs never asked to go thank god. Madam Tussaud’s is rubbish too. Stick to the Eye, the Tower, going up the River and crossing the Thames from St Paul’s to the South Bank. Go in a park, have a decent meal and consider science and natural history museums.

We go to London a lot! We keep it cheap and cheerful and now I’m at the point I’m up
for doing ticket events.

This type of horror appeals to us as a family. The younger one not so much. I wondered if it was graphic or like a museum type thing. Ticket age is 5 plus so…

It depends on your child, mine knew about Jack the Ripper etc already but it was shocking to see actual photos (although if you knew nothing about it you might not realise they were real). It was scary but not terrifying. We really enjoyed it, the actors were amazing.

CornOfCopia · 02/08/2025 00:14

I went last summer with my friend and our DC, both 8 at the time. My DD loved it; friend's DS enjoyed most of it but was a bit scared in places. My DS who was 11 didn't want to come. DD, now, 9, has been asking to go again.

So it depends on the child, but it is very, very dark and gruesome.

And surely that’s why you went?! That’s why we went, my seven year old loved it too.

menopausalmare · 02/08/2025 06:41

That's what I thought. We didn't take our 10 year old because of it.

Icebreakhell · 02/08/2025 06:51

I took DD when she was 7 or 8. She loved it. Also did the London Bridge experience where people actually chased us around. She was ok with that too. But some kids won’t like the dark or the jumpy bits. So, depends on the child.

Antiperspirant · 02/08/2025 07:48

Depends on the kid. Mine went at 7 and was ok, enjoyed it but closed eyes at some bits, then went back at 8 and closed eyes for a lot more of it and doesnt want to go back! Like your family, mine enjoy horrors, thrillers, goosebumps, Wednesday, Halloween and scary stories etc

If you do go, keep reminding them they’re actors and hold hands, also when you know a jump scares about to happen whisper to them “jumpscare alert” and they’ll be alright.

Oh and the bit with the witch in the cage SPOILER ALERT

Dont sit the kid in the aisle or at the front because the witch escapes the cage when it’s pitch black and then keeps reappearing right in peoples faces when the light flashes on.

00deed1988 · 02/08/2025 07:54

It depends on the child. My youngest is horror made and went at 7 for 1st time and loved it. My eldest went for 1st time at 10 or 11. It is scary, make sure 2 adults go incase an adult is taken to the front or put in a cage and the child is left on their own or you feel awkward for not getting involved.

Donkeys years ago (in the 90s) I worked there as a waitress at functions held there after hours. I remember serving Champaign cocktails which had a lychee soaked in cassise (eyeball). Having spent many evenings there I don't find it scary at all. BUT no 8 year old should see some of the stuff and concepts on display (prostititutes, torture / hang drawn and quartered people / disembowelment / dark / creepy music a d scarers around every corner. Its a no from me.

I mistakenly took two 7 year olds, we had to leave before the end, which was tricky because its like going round ikea and everyone is in costume so I had to approach a zombie and try and have a rational conversation about finding the exit.

Sorry. How you described this really did make me chuckle..

What a cool job to have. "What do you do?". " I'm a scarer at the London Dungeon".

My ex actually was for a while. He was also an entertainer/magician at Hamleys. Feels like one of those unicorn jobs where you know people do them but you never expect to meet one in real life Grin

SmugglersHaunt · 02/08/2025 08:16

I went a million years ago when I was 11/12ish. It scared the bejesus out of me. I still occasionally think of 'Sawney Beane' which terrified me

I'm wondering why he's your ex!!

You know the scarers have to act unhinged and crazy? He wasn't acting...!

Westfacing · 02/08/2025 08:23

I haven't been for decades but do remember it was gruesome - things like people dressed in rags behind bars being mistreated and tortured.

Rowgtfc72 · 02/08/2025 08:33

I wouldn't. Its dark, you're hemmed in small spaces with lots of people and way too many jump scares. My sil ended up shut in a coffin at one point.
Spoiler.
In the tavern when the strobes came on I spied jack the ripper over the other side by the bar. Next strobe he's stood next to me with his face next to mine grinning.
I lost it in the mirrored room. Got separated from dh and dd, panicked and started to follow some big bloke who i thought might look after me. He got faster and started to bang the mirrors. The lady had to let him out before he had a panic attack.

Great for adults. Well worth the money. Not for kids.

Tatty247 · 02/08/2025 08:33

We went 10 years ago when DS was 9ish and I don't remember it being that scary - certainly didn't need to leave. We just thought it was all quite funny and still quote from it now. No one else in our group left either. I thought it was inappropriate to have stuff about prostitutes there though when anyone over 5 can go.

Oh god this reminds me of when I took the grandchildren to the Shrek thing on the Southbank some years ago. I got left behind in a mirrored room and just couldn't find my way out - being very claustrophobic I almost lost it and started to shout for help and someone came and rescued me. The GC thought it all very funny!

That's the one that was at Tooley Street. They moved in 2013. I always thought it was strange that it seemed to be in an odd place all the way down that road not really near anything..

Mine went at 13 and 15 and loved it. 8 is pretty young. Have you been to Ripleys believe it or not. That’s good fun

Like my mate who was an elf I the Harrods Christmas grotto.

I’m laughing at all these replies and I’m glad it’s not only me that was traumatised as an adult 😂😂

At one point someone jumped out at me and I literally flew into the guy beside me…who should have been my boyfriend but wasn’t as mine had shit it in the scenario before and decided not to walk through the next bit with me which I didn’t realise 🥲🤣
So instead this random guy ended up with a burst lip and I had a giant egg of a lump on my forehead 😂

Then my weird thoughts started creeping in… “I wonder how many of these actors are actually psychopaths and have dreams of doing these things to people?” 🤔 “this would be the perfect place for a murdered to get a job and hide” 🤔 “I wonder how many people someone could kill in here in a day before anyone realised what was going on?” 🤔 “maybe the screams from the next room are actually people being murdered” 🫠

I don’t think it’s the place for me 🫣😂

I’m sorry but this really made me laugh, I’m glad you got out though!

I took a 9yr old once (not mine) who was in tears by the end!
