I’ve never been. 8 year old is pretty tough and handled Jurassic park rebirth this weekend. Will it be ok?

I wonder if it is more scary than the other ones? We went to the Blackpool dungeon with my 8 and 10 year old recently . They had a brilliant time. There was a bit with strobe lighting which made it feel like there was a ghost in the room but they weren’t scared by it. They saw their dad tortured which they found hilarious! There was a court bit with some rather risqué jokes that went over their heads. Overall it was all pretty good fun.

PickledMuffin · 01/08/2025 21:07

they must have changed it from when i went with my Dad 30 odd years ago! i don’t remember it being that scary! does Jack the Ripper still jump out at you?

Dunno, we almost got to Jack The Ripper but had to leave at the part where

[SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN]

the prostitute was talking about other prostitutes being ripped open. We had to leave as the 8 year old was whimpering too much. So we'd almost got to the end. 😂

I don't think it's scarier, I'm not sure. We went to the Alton Towers one a few years later when the girls were 10 and 14 (as I said in my pp they were 4 and 8 when we did the London one). It was very similar to the London one. My youngest was fine again but she just doesn't scare as easily as my oldest ha ha!

Vintagefair · 01/08/2025 21:33

I found it so gruesome. Organs being ripped out, rats eating people chained to the Thames foreshore - all in life size models.

Until I read this thread I imagined I was the only one ever to stumble out, eyes down through the Ikea type maze. I was 24.

AutumnLover1989 · 01/08/2025 21:35

I wouldn't. It's not just the scare aspect but all the talk of torture and cutting off men's bits isn't really appropriate. I'd say 12 and up.

Yes!

I don't remember the rats eating people and I only went a couple of years ago, perhaps it's different now. Or the leg getting sawn off mentioned earlier. There are two places which I found really scary and the rest isn't that bad, some parts are funny. It's not good if you don't like pitch black. The first time I went two youngish kids were there and they seemed fine and less scared than me! I took mine at 13 and 14 though. I would have taken them a bit younger.

Mrscharlieeeee · 01/08/2025 22:03

Not done the London one but I’ve done the York one and absolutely crapped myself. My youngest is 8 and he’s seen jaws, all the Jurassic movies and I honestly don’t think I’d take him to the York dungeon until he’s about 13.

Though reading the thread I feel mine is an anomaly. 😂

He had had a thorough conservation before hand with older DD who has very fond memories of going at around the same age and also made it through with no fear. Remembers clearly me being put on trial as a witch!

My kids are weird.

Both my niece and DGS enjoyed it they were 9and 7 at the time

menopausalmare · 01/08/2025 22:14

I wouldn't. I think there's an age restriction ( check website).

ipredictariot5 · 01/08/2025 22:17

Mine had a panic attack had to be escorted out and it ruined the whole trip

Miyagi99 · 01/08/2025 22:25

I took my daughter when she was 7, we loved it. Have photos of the little ride (optional) at the end. Still use my mug from there!

Shattereddreamsparkway · 01/08/2025 22:36

I held up the queue when the bloke with the chainsaw came out and started waving it all around me. I just froze to the spot! I was so annoyed at myself that I chose freeze instead of flight but I was terrified 😂 he just gave up in the end and walked on and chose another victim

It’s over 5.

It’s over 5.

The website recommends it for 12 and over

I didn’t even make it through the queue for the London Dungeons when I was about 10/12. They had live actors coming out to people queuing up to go inside… we left as I just completely bottled it!! That was just the queue! Although I am was a complete wimp, but reading this makes me glad I’m not the only one.

ManyShapesOfPasta · 01/08/2025 23:00

I took Dd to the Edinburgh one at 8 or 9, she loved it but has never scared easily.

TizerorFizz · 01/08/2025 23:07

There’s SO much else you can do in London why even think about this? My DDs never asked to go thank god. Madam Tussaud’s is rubbish too. Stick to the Eye, the Tower, going up the River and crossing the Thames from St Paul’s to the South Bank. Go in a park, have a decent meal and consider science and natural history museums.

cobrakaieaglefang · 01/08/2025 23:08

Depends on if you are saving plenty for future therapy for your child! 😉
My kids went 20 odd years ago and were fine ( DB and SIL took them while they stayed with them ) but a sensitive child would be scared witless, a child was there at the same time and hysterical with fear!

narcASD · 01/08/2025 23:10

I took my 9 & 13yo to the one in Blackpool and the 9yo was fine while my 13yo cried the whole time, the actors are not allowed to touch you, there were strobe lights and a lot of darkness, a bit of adult humour and even after crying the entire way through it my 13yo said she wants to go again. There were quite a few younger kids around 8 that appeared to cope better than my teenager!

everythingthelighttouches · 01/08/2025 23:13

No.
we accidentally took 9 year old a few years ago as we’d completely misjudged it.
He is also tough as old boots and at that point had seen all Jurassic parks, Jaws, Indians Jones, final Harry Potter movies etc.

This is too real and grim. There’s nothing fantasy or Hollywood about it.

SPOILERS>>>>

I can remember if it was when we were stepping over the bodies of dismembered prostitutes, or perhaps when they locked me in a cage for witchcraft and did a load of poltergeist type effects….but he was terrified. We only got through it because he was clamped to me the entire time (apart from near the beginning when I was in a cage) with his head in my stomach and my hands over his ears.
Later, we were all strapped into wooden chairs for sweeny Todd to come and slit our throats, there was a massive jump scare in a “tavern” , oh and an autopsy.

He’s 12 now and I still wouldn’t take him yet. He would probably need to be at least 15.

I will say it it was excellent if you like that sort of thing!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 01/08/2025 23:16

I took my 8 year old DS, he put his hands in all the boxes when you were waiting to go in and was very disappointed that he wasn’t tall enough to do the drop at the end

everythingthelighttouches · 01/08/2025 23:17

I do recommend getting the DLR out towards the O2, cable car over the Thames, boat up the Thames to tower bridge and going over tower bridge on the glass walkway.
