Because I am now fat and he didn't know how else to give me a compliment?

For context, he also said you looked amazing in a text later but his initial words when we ran into eachother were you are looking well.

I am so much bigger than when he last seen me (20 years ago!) but my teenage heart just broke a bit as I know that isn't always a great compliment.

If i say to someone they are looking well, I say it as a compliment. Maybe I had better say nothing in future..

I’ve been told I look well many times in my life and I’ve always been on the skinny side. I think it just means what it says.

If I say someone is looking well I mean they look well, healthy, glowing I do not mean they look fatter since I last saw them. YABU and it’s probably your own insecurity because you don’t look like you did 20 years ago when you was with him. He didn’t have to compliment you he could have just said hello.
