to buy toiletries at the airport?

I haven’t been abroad for some time. I haven’t got any clear plastic bags of the size airports give you to put your liquids in to go through security. Rather than risk them not fitting in the bag, I plan on waiting till I get to departures and just buying all my shampoo, suncream etc there.
Now I’ve thought of it, I don’t know why everyone doesn’t do this. Is there a snag in my plan somewhere? Travelling with Ryanair. Will save a space in my carry-on for the toiletries (no hold bag).
Thanks!

Just the price. Usually double price

Katemax82 · 30/07/2025 19:18

Just put everything in your checked luggage

elQuintoConyo · 30/07/2025 19:18

Go for it. They might be more expensive, but that's the only draw back. You could even wait until you land and go to a local supermarket, which would be cheaper.most brands are international.

Hoppinggreen · 30/07/2025 19:18

Its not the cheapest way of doing it but I sometimes do it.
More usually I will buy them in a supermarket when I arrive in my destination

HollyGolightly4 · 30/07/2025 19:18

Where are you going? If Europe, buy there. Tube of toothpaste was £6 in boots this morning.

See: “no hold bag”

Frloel · 30/07/2025 19:19

Expensive, if you’re going to wait to buy I’d do it at destination rather than the airport.

Comefromaway · 30/07/2025 19:19

She hasn’t got any checked luggage.

but rather than pay inflated airport prices I’d get some travel miniatures from Superdrug or Boots & buy one of their clear travel pouches to put them in.

pizzaHeart · 30/07/2025 19:20

Where are you going and what you need?
If you are after popular things you might be able to buy them at your destination. However they will be more expensive.

Spirallingdownwards · 30/07/2025 19:21

Actually Boots in the airport isn't that expensive

Dontletthebedbugsbite2 · 30/07/2025 19:21

Some airports you can do click & collect so you pay normal prices but collect there. Personally I would just buy a set of travel bottles from primark etc for £2.50 and fill them with stuff from home. Saves waste too.

TheFlis · 30/07/2025 19:22

It’s expensive and unless you are going for a few weeks, you will barely make a dent in using them and will then have to bin them as you won’t be able to bring full size bottles home, so a major waste.

Soonenough · 30/07/2025 19:22

Don't most airports give these bags for free? I just tip my travel toiletries into one.

Smartiepants79 · 30/07/2025 19:22

Just buy a plastic bag? Cheaper than the premium they charge to buy in the airport. How are you planning to get them home?

Idontjetwashthefucker · 30/07/2025 19:22

Which airport? If it's Manchester or Liverpool you don't need to put your bottles in plastic bags anymore...some other airports are the same

IMissSparkling · 30/07/2025 19:23

You must have sandwich bags in your house? Use one of them.

dragonbear · 30/07/2025 19:23

You can just use normal freezer bags from a supermarket - much cheaper to buy these if required and fill with normal toiletiries under 100 ml .it’s not the size of the clear plastic bag that matters it’s the contents of it . But depending on the airport you are travelling from , if they have the new scanners you don’t need to empty your bag or use the clear plastic bags anymore .
have a great time !

bostonchamps · 30/07/2025 19:23

I always just do a click and collect order to Boots - if you're transiting through another airport just make sure they put the order in one of the sealable customs bags.

I seem to always just happen to manage to place the order on £10 Tuesday as well, so I can justify a few treats...

Assssofspades · 30/07/2025 19:24

I always do an online order to the Boots past security.

PinkiOcelot · 30/07/2025 19:25

I do that if I don’t have a hold bag. Normally click and collect. Can sometimes get it cheaper on line than in the airport store.

dementedpixie · 30/07/2025 19:26

A resealable small freezer bag is around the correct size for the plastic bags you require. Max size 20cmx20cm. Although not all airports require them now

Ledwood85 · 30/07/2025 19:28

I always plan a trip to the local supermarket as soon as I arrive at a destination and am on the way from the airport. Toiletries, bottled water, some basic staples (snacks and fruit).
If they have a foreign exchange even better - you get a better rate selling your currency at your destination than buying at home.

GoatGoatGoat · 30/07/2025 19:29

Depending on which airport you are flying from, you might not need to put liquids in a clear bag. Many let you leave liquids in the bag for screening now.

You can also do click and collect order to pick up at Boots after security and you can avoid the extortionate prices.

Dublassie · 30/07/2025 19:29

Click and Collect with Boots AFTER security ! I always do it when flying though the UK . Online prices , guaranteed availability and very convenient .

aquashiv · 30/07/2025 19:29

I flew out of Gatwick yesterday, and no one checked. You no longer need to take anything out. I didn’t have any checked bags. I had spent a long time needlessly decanting too.
