AIBU to be surprised this was advertised at 12pm today?

One of DC had a sleepover with two of their friends last night at our house. Everything went fine and this afternoon I said they could watch a film before the others were picked up. We came back from going for a walk and I said they could start to look at kids films whilst I prepare lunch. I turned on the TV which automatically goes to the freebies channel set up before I press the button for SKY. On the main screen was ‘Adventures of a taxi driver’ with a cartoon woman bent over leaning into a taxi showing her bottom and underwear.

AIBU to be a bit surprised to see that in the middle of the day this is what’s being advertised? Didn’t say anything to the children but when the parents came to pick their children up they were surprised to see that being advertised too. I’d never heard of it but looked it up and it’s a raunchy 70s film.

Well I don't think it's appropriate to advertise a film like that during childrens tv viewing hours.
1970s smut with dated attitudes to women weren't funny then and are even less so today.
It was given an X rating when it was released and I know attitudes have changed but I wouldnt want young children to see it.

Edited

Exactly they were bad in the 70s ,I saw one when I was a teen.
Why anyone would watch in this day and age it's definitely a waste of an hour and half of your life.

? We have it because we want it but also because the signal is terrible we tried the free channels when we first moved here constant freezing or channel not available. It was the first thing we were warned about. We’ve always had SKY so it’s not a massive issue, pretty much everyone is on SKY or Virgin.

Yes same here was the first time I had lived in this area of town. Apparently our area is on a different transmitter which is out in the sticks. It was ok at first but after a few years it started to lose signal and the picture would break up into squares. Only thing is if WiFi plays up no TV. I do have a DVD collection though.

As I’ve said a few times before it was just there when I turned the TV on. We try to monitor what our children watch as much as we can i.e we have profiles set up with pins on (SKY). Our computer is downstairs where we can see what they are on etc.

We communicate with parents what we are ok with and vice versa when our daughter stays over (which has only just started happening in the last few months) at their houses.

I just simply don’t like what it was depicting.

Sorry I wasn't trying to say "put up with it", I was just trying to explain why it might be more likely to come up.
So you switched on the TV and that appeared.. But isn't the TV connected to the internet and basing it's suggestions on things that have previously been watched?
Or are you saying you use a different account for the kids, so there's no way someone might have watched similar material on that account?

I feel the same as you, it feels like a minefield and the normalisation of sexual material seems to be a big part of that, as people are desensitised.
Similar to violence in films.

My hope is that alongside the porn site age verification, internet uses will one day be able to report sexual material on any site, and the host will be heavily fined.
So they'll err on the side of caution when showing anything remotely sexual on their website/TV platform, if it's accessible to kids.

People on MN may say that's too tame to report, but id certainly report it and many others would.

Oh I see…sorry too…it’s so hard when reading and not actually talking to the person. Basically our Sky is always on standby mode when not in use…so TV on first with TV remote (that’s when the LG channel thing comes up) then with the SKY remote power button/sky button and Sky home page comes on…for some reason if we do it any other way the TV stays blank and we have to faff turn it off at the mains back on wait a few minutes and then finally comes back on 🙄 then sky button. We never watch the LG/Free channel stuff.

Thats why it’s difficult to control what’s seen on the screen if the kids are sat with us because the LG thing comes up first.

Anyway no biggie now kids see things they shouldn’t all the time we accept that and we try to deal with it if/when they ask questions.

Oh I see.. It's part of the smart tv base software

if it were me, I'd see if that LG channel has settings to filter adult content.

And if it doesn't.. I'd complain to LG that youre getting suggestions that you don't want, and that there are no settings to avoid them.

And if it does have settings to filter adult content and youre still getting stuff like that suggested.. Id complain to LG that their filters aren't working properly.

I admit that the film suggestion you got was pretty tame, so it depends how much time you have to bother complaining haha

That's why I'm hoping in future there will be an easy way to report content (just a button) rather than having to contact LG.

My main issue is with xbox and steam platforms, with genuinely displays actual porn on groups which are aimed at kids (eg Roblox) despite the xbox being setup (in family safety settings) to only show content suitable for children.. Because they allow users to upload things and they require users to police it themselves.
But when you report an image, it just gets taken down. There are no consequences for the platform for showing porn to minors.

The only way to fix the current inevitability of our kids seeing adult content/porn online, is to impose consequences on anyone who allows the content to be put on their platform.

Even full time parental supervision of a child on the Internet won't stop them seeing adult content, you'll just see it together!

This is what I was asking other users who’ve said I need to alter the settings for help with finding the settings for LG but not had a reply yet.

That’s not good with Roblox we don’t have it but other friends kids do. It’s really poor there’s not stronger filters/consequences to the companies that make it accessible. It would be so much easier like you say a button to report or hide.
