Any point reporting it?

I'm sat in the outside area at a Wetherspoons pub. There's a man and a woman sat at a nearby table. The man is clearly abusive and is aggressively telling the woman to 'shut the fuck up'.

Is there any point reporting it to the police? I presume they'll (man and woman) just say they were having a disagreement?

Maybe not the police but I would mention to the staff to keep an eye on her

They sound like the type that’d be plotted up at a Weatherspoons at 11am on a weekday.

You sound lovely, not judgemental at all.

So the woman deserves any abuse just because shes at a wetherspoon at 11am on a weekday?

Whst could the police do?
People argue the police don't have the time to investigate every argument.

I didn’t say that did I. I said they sound typically the types that would be rowing outside Wetherspoons

People rowing outside Wetherspoons sound like the type of people that row outside Wetherspoons?

There’s nothing stopping her from calling the police so I expect this is just how they talk to each other. He’s just louder than she is.

If in doubt always say something. Mention to staff and see if they can keep an eye on her.

If he is actually abusive and they're not just being argumentative then yes, there could well be a lot stopping her from calling the police herself. The biggest thing would be fear - fear that she wouldn't be believed, that the abuse would be worse after they'd left, that he might actually kill her for speaking up....

Yes. Rough people.

ThisOldThang · 31/07/2025 22:12

Can you not see the pointlessness of your statement?

'People rowing outside a pub are the type of people that row outside pubs'

Of course they are! It's a given, isn't it?

'People that drink water are the type of people that drink water.'

'People that drive Audis are the type of people that drive Audis.'
