Dad moved in

My dad moved in with me so I can care for him.
How do I add him on my council tax ? And add him to my universal credit?

Without him having to pay pay my rent?
Someone said add him a lodger instead of a tenant? Otherwise he will be expected to pay half the rent? That’s not fair is it? He’s a disabled pensioner thank you

He’s a dependent adult. Age UK is always my go-to for accurate info on all things elderly parent. They have an excellent chat bot and will get back to you with a (human) phone call if you ask for advice.

Your uc will be seperate to his. You dont add him to your uc claim. But there might be a independent deduction off your rent.

best getting this moved to the money board rather than AIBU for better advice.

With regards to your Council Tax he is not liable as he is an occupier and not a joint tenant, so you will lose Single Person discount and any Council Tax Reduction you recieve may be affected by his income. If you recieve Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction he will be added as a non dependent and it may affect your claim.

Is he on any disability benefits

You may lose some council tax support, but could get carers allowance. Speak to Age UK, they have wonderful advice.
