Bali

Morning lovely MNetters

Posting in AIBU for traffic.

I’ve been to Bali twice - a long time ago. Back in 1989 & 1993, and my recollections are of a beautiful, tranquil, spiritual place with lovely people.

I have a significant birthday in 2027, and have been planning and discussing with adult DD the holiday of a lifetime - business class flights & I’ve set my heart on Bliss Sanctuary for women (all inclusive - personal driver, all meals, sightseeing, unlimited treatments….) the photos on social media and the reviews are amazing. They have two sanctuaries in Seminyak and one in Canguu. It’s probably going to cost me in the region of 20k for both of us.
However, recently, I’ve seen a couple of really negative articles in the media about Bali - now suffering from over tourism, pollution (loads of rubbish and plastic waste on the beaches…and in the streets) traffic is horrendous, it takes ages to get anywhere and very difficult to even cross the road. It’s very sad to read this. I’ve heard that Kuta is to be avoided, but was wondering if anyone’s been recently and can give an honest, up to date review?

It’s a long way to go and a lot of £££ to spend to be disappointed! Wondering if we should scrap the whole idea and do something else very extravagant?

Thank You ♥️

I go to Bali most years, I was there in February this year.

Bali has changed a great deal, the traffic is insane anywhere, particularly in the South East. I personally avoid the Seminyak/Canguu areas like the plague, they typify what to me has been the ruin of Bali, Influencers and the digital nomad crowd and expats of certain nationalities. Beach clubs, boutique shops and overpriced Western restaurants, you might as well save your money and go to Ibiza.

Kuta is a sad shell of its former lively, vibrant self. Most of the nightclubs closed down during Covid and have never reopened.

The rubbish is worse than ever and there’s construction everywhere.

That said, I still love so much about Bali and will return any time I have a chance.

Do you avoid staying in those areas then?
