Sexism and bullying swept under the rug

So this is a long one.

I’ve been a volunteer for a number of years at a local sports club. Last year a new person (albeit returning) was added to the club and made my life an absolute living hell. He’d make sexist comments repeatedly and pass them off as a joke.

in the end I reported it. Unfortunately due to the changing of the personnel little was done immediately. This provided him and his friends time to collaborate and make me look an idiot. I’ve been forced out of my role and it has had a huge impact on my kids.

at this point I’ve a choice of making a huge fight to stand my corner or just abandoning it and walking away. I’m struggling as I’m worried I’ll walk away and regret it later. The issues are still having an impact and the lies have meant I cannot continue in my role which I enjoyed very much. AIBU to carry on wanting to fight? TIA

What would be the best and worst case outcomes from this?

Best: you get your old role back at an organisation you no longer trust?

Worst: you and your kids get impacted further?

I suppose best case is that there is acknowledgment of the mistakes and wrong doing?

worst is we are still in this position next year?

TY

Who would you complain to ?

Is this person a volunteer or employee?

is there anyone outside you can complain to, such a a governing body / regulator ?

I agree with ExtraOnions - take it further up the line. If you can take the stress that is - and no one would judge you if not.
