To think the RNLI are 100% in the right

I've just seen this story on the BBC news homepage where the RNLI are being accused of acting as a taxi service for migrants trying to enter the UK on small boats from Europe.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8dejyg4l37o

The organisation and volunteers quite rightly have responded to say they make no apologies for saving lives at sea and that their work has no political motivation.

Damn straight - one of the volunteers further down the article explains the profound impact he feels of encountering people struggling in our waters.

It makes me wonder what critics of the service expect them to do - just sail away, leaving the people to die? Pick them up and cross the channel to dump them back 'where they came from'?

What is wrong with them? Where is their compassion? Regardless of your thoughts on immigration, this is so cold and inhuman....

Pick them up and cross the channel to dump them back 'where they came from'?

What's so wrong with dropping them back in France? France is a developed country, not at war.

TheNuthatch · 31/07/2025 10:38

Yep.
The most common country of origin of the men arriving on boats is Eritrea. According to the government's own website, it is not safe for women to walk alone due to risk of physical and verbal abuse.
Would anyone be happy for their teenage daughter to walk the streets in the capital of Eritrea? Yet these same men are welcomed here by the pp.

Why do you think the people are fleeing Eritrea?

Also I think we are honest and have a fair sense of play

I think we are one of the better countries for women and girls. Look at the marvellous FWS and even this site for pressure.

Some prefer to say we uniquely don’t have a culture, or deride it as below.

We have loads of great stuff and I wouldn’t swap for many places, especially when thinking of dd.

LizzyEm · 31/07/2025 10:46

I want to move to another country but due to visa restrictions, as a working age person without passive income, I can't.

Should I be able to just rock up to the country I want to move to, illegally cross the border, refuse to leave and expect to be supported?

No, I shouldn't because that's illegal, and against proper behaviour.

Why then should these boat people be able to do it and be fully supported by the British taxpayer?

Importing?

Which cultures exactly and how are they treathening British culture?

I thought you didn't believe in British culture?

How about you start answering your own question with the rape gangs, you know, the issue Keir recently announced a national enquiry for?

Perhaps you could then reflect on the obvious money laundering operations on the high streets. Who is running them?

Or why Christmas markets are now commonly policed by armed officers and we have bollards everywhere to stop cars driving into crowds? What do you think has changed?

Stop sealioning. It's boring and stupid.

You put a weird spin on my posts.

People are fleeing Eritrea because they are not safe there, why would I send my daughter somewhere unsafe?

Are you really suggesting I would excuse sexual assault? Fuck me, you are really something else.

FWIW, the man is in custody, if he is guilty he should be deported.

The other asylum seekers have nothing to do with him, they have no choice who they are housed with and where.

JMSA · 31/07/2025 10:57

Can you imagine just leaving them to die? 😮
That’s when we fully stop being a civilised society.

Another one who puts a spin of what I am saying.

I have not said anything about not believing in British culture, I live here.

I do not believe that British culture is under threat from immigrants

EasternStandard · 31/07/2025 11:00

So we all agree British culture exists and when it’s mentioned the same posts saying what is it aren’t needed

Or the ones saying how bad we are every time.

PandoraSocks · 31/07/2025 11:00

Eritrean refugees have been coming to the UK for decades. Why the sudden demonising of them?

SkintSingleMumm · 31/07/2025 11:01

Whiningatwine · 29/07/2025 09:49

The only issue I have with the RNLI doing this is that they are run without government funding and on donations from the public. I know they prefer this, but I do think when it comes to migrant crossings the government should pay the expenses of the rescue. I'm convinced that these migrants crossings are due to government failures in setting out a proper process and I don't think a charity should be funding sorting the mess out.

I have mainly answered Duncin's questions, not simply posed ones of my own.

And yet there you were, asking people to define British culture, mocking when you didn't immediately get a response. Utterly disingenuous, bad faith arguing.

Funeraltango · 31/07/2025 11:07

Obviously it would be inhumane to let people drown, but I’m not sure what’s so bad about picking them up and depositing them back in France.

Our navy doesn't like to break maritime law. So who are you going to send in to French waters?

I asked what people mean by British culture when they say it is under threat, especially when they say they they will be accused of being racist.

I am not mocking anyone or anything.

Your daughter would be unsafe in Eritrea because of Eritrean men. The same men that you are happy to welcome to our towns and cities.

So you want the Ethiopian man charged with 3 counts of SA to be deported if found guilty, yet you're happy for him to be replaced as he's just one bad apple. OK.

I didn't accuse you of that? I asked if you had a message or thoughts. I'm certainly not apologising for doing so.
