I agree with @CorneliaCuppIt’s been a while since I’ve dated but I can’t think of any lies that partners told me.

Why would I lie? About what exactly? What’s the point? If he doesn’t like me, it’s his loss.

I can see that you might not want to 'highlight' things you don't feel particularly proud of.

I also think you should (both) make a bit of an effort - my thinking is if you cba making the effort for the first time you meet, it isn't going to get better as you move forward. Even if we were meeting for a walk in the park, I'd hope for better than paint spattered joggers and unwashed hair.
BUT avoiding mentioning that your estranged brother is a heroin addict seems a LOT different from 'lying'.

Depends what you mean by lie. If you mean show the best side of yourself, that’s not lying.

If it’s - I’m not married / I have no children / I’m a millionaire / I’m an astronaut - that’s lying, if they aren’t true.

I don't like liars. What's the point in lying, you just end up with someone who is wrong for you.
