How old are you? I didn’t have periods for about a decade and thought it was down to my contraception. Turned out I had a vitamin D deficiency and now they are like clockwork.

Newyeargymwanker · 28/07/2025 13:05

You just realised your last period was 4yrs ago?

Coffeeishot · 28/07/2025 13:05

If you have had no period for that lobf you are post menopausal, i dont know why you thought you were perimenipausal

CreationNat1on · 28/07/2025 13:06

Lucky lady, 4 years no period, any contraceptive involved?

Age?

Topseyt123 · 28/07/2025 13:10

You are probably through the menopause now, assuming you are of roughly the right age for it (you don't say exactly).

Enjoy the freedom of it. Not everyone gets all (or in some cases even any) of the horrendous symptoms others describe.

I did have horrendous flooding periods for about a decade with various methods tried for stopping them but they always came back. I was just starting to insist on a hysterectomy and enquiring about going onto any waiting lists but then they just stopped. I had just turned 57 then. I'm 59 now and haven't had one since. Thankfully. It's such a relief and an emancipation.

KPPlumbing · 28/07/2025 13:37

How did you not realise before now?!

My mum said she breezed through the menopause with no symptoms, and didn't even notice it was happening, so it's not always the doom and gloom we see in the media these days.

God sake the typos in this 😳 i will blame the menopause brain 😀

KillingMeWithSilence · 28/07/2025 15:38

DonnaBanana · 28/07/2025 15:40

Weird I wonder what on earth it could be

cheezncrackers · 28/07/2025 15:41

Congratulations OP - it sounds like you've gone through the menopause without even noticing. Four years ago!

KillingMeWithSilence · 28/07/2025 15:42

I thought i was peri because i was thinking “a year with no period and i am done” but time flies ….

Well i noticed at the time cos i took like 5 pregnancy tests because i was so “late”

Notellinganyone · 28/07/2025 15:48

Medically it’s 12 months with no period and you are post menopausal. Before that it’s peri. There’s no actual menopause in that sense it’s a process.

LeftieRightsHoarder · 28/07/2025 15:50

I only knew I’d gone through menopause, at around OP’s age, when I noticed I hadn’t had a period for ages. I had no emotional/psychological symptoms, and only a few very mild flushes in the months after my periods stopped.

KillingMeWithSilence · 28/07/2025 15:50

Yes, i just hadnt clocked how long it had been. No symptoms except no menstruation so it just passed me by, like the winter of 1999, but thats another story, to be told by someone else, because it passed me by

OP posts:
CurlyCabbage · 28/07/2025 15:53

Amazing if youve had minimal to no symptoms. You are officially post-menopausal!

on a side note, If you actually get any vaginal bleeding from now on it would be deemed abnormal and you would be advised to go to the doctors asap. Whether or not it was like a period.

CharlotteBakewell · 28/07/2025 15:53

I’m 55 and still have the Mirena coil fitted, haven’t had a period since I first had it when I was around 37, so no idea if I’ve gone through it or not.

Sounds like you’re through the other side, OP, finger’s crossed.

mamagogo1 · 28/07/2025 15:55

@KPPlumbing

my mum said she had no symptoms and doesn’t understand all the obsession today, I’m 6 months since last period currently (had a 4 month break last year so not calling it yet) and like her no symptoms to speak of except poor sleep but I’ve been like that since having dc 20 years ago! No everyone has a bad experience at menopause but our stories aren’t very interesting to hear

CloudywMeatballs · 28/07/2025 15:57

Isn't the definition of menopause not having a period for at least 12 months? Then I think you're post menopausal.
Not everyone has symptoms during peri-menopause.

DancingLions · 28/07/2025 15:57

I'm counting down the months! I keep hitting 6 months, then another period arrives. It's driving me crazy. I'm at the 6 month mark again now and am very aware of how long it's been since my last one. I'm desperate to hit that 12 month point. I'm 56 this year so it's way past time imo.

Yes my step mum also said the same. They're both very tough, no nonsense - a bit too far in the other direction at times - but both think "You're noone if you're not suffering", and the increased awareness through people like Davina is making some women look for symptoms that they might otherwise not spot.

KillingMeWithSilence · 28/07/2025 15:58

My mum had the full works of symptoms, so I was thinking i would be the same. I feel for my sister now

When I had my last Mirena IUD fitted, in my early 50s, my doctor told me that if it caused me to stop bleeding entirely they would test my blood every year to see the hormone levels to know if I'd gone through menopause. Does yours not do that? As it happens, I do still spot regularly so no blood tests required!

CoastalCalm · 28/07/2025 16:02

You might still get symptoms , my last one was about same time as yours but a recent hysterectomy and fact I can’t take HRT has sent me into symptom hell

No but those who do sail through it should have bone density checks done.
