Today: tell me the good and the bad... let's let off steam!

So the good... I was fortunate enough to go cat sitting in a beautiful place, with lovely friends and gorgeous, affectionate mogs. Honestly it made my heart so happy. And I got to see a couple of BAFTAs in the flesh. When I got home a little time ago I was just floating really, it was an unexpectedly lovely weekend...

... until I got a text message from my car insurer (this is the bad!) saying that if I auto renew with them next month it will be an extra £600. What?! That is double! I have not claimed, I've not misbehaved, I've not pimped my ride! So I did the Live Chat but it's OOH so a virtual assistant basically said: " Oh dear, poor you, yes it does sound frustrating... what's changed?" Erm nothing except what you are charging me you chumps! So they have to get back to me tomorrow.

It was helpful to be with them as I was an expat for a while and that invalidates your prior no-claims, so I was building up with them again and now it's going to be a bloody faff to have to move. This is the second renewal now with them and last time it went down £50 which is what I would have expected! GRRRRRR!

hold on to cat cuddle memories - chill - hold on to cat cuddle memories

What are yours?!

It’s my birthday.
Had a lovely few hours at an event with dh and dc and a lovely meal out.
On the way home my youngest was sick everywhere all over the car and herself 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/07/2025 19:40

Good? My DH and DC are coming home after a weekend away. Bad? The cat has just had a shit so now I have to scoop the litter tray. Git.

AbzMoz · 27/07/2025 19:45

Good - my DH made his infamous Yorkshire puddings and homemade gravy for lunch and reminded me why I married him.

Bad - got a bit of the Sunday scaries (for no reason in particular). Also realised I have no friends with baftas, and am too curious for my own good

Aww, bet you can't wait - not long now, right?

Oh did the cat do it just after you cleaned it too? That tends to be their trick!

Good - cinnamon bun in the sun
Bad - heavy rain this morning & it's Monday tomorrow

GoodGollyMissDolly · 27/07/2025 19:58

The good! Finally managed to get two rooms gutted and reorganised in the house - this job has been hanging over me for MONTHS and they look so good now

The bad… I have to do about 17 tip runs this week whilst also trying to potty train my toddler who is reluctant to say the least!! Tips, anyone??

Ooh I am now very hungry all of a sudden! Sounds amazing.

Oh no, I'm sorry, want to talk through the scaries?

I wish they were my friends - I am friends with the primary cat sitters and was lucky enough to be invited for the night (and they asked permission from the clever winner). I don't know which I was more bowled over... this whole display of serious awards... or their cats doing 'look at my tummy, look at my tummmyyy!' rolls in front of said awards! So sweet!

Oh wow, congrats, that's amazing. Well done. I hope you keep looking at your lovely new spaces and giving that happy sigh!

Oh eek... no tips, just sympathy!

Let’s be honest, it was definitely the cats… I love going to tourist sites and seeing flocks of people cooing over kitties and ignoring the ‘once in a life time views.’ We are all suckers, aren’t we?

Thats so kind but I am fine; just the usual head whirring with the what ifs and the busy-ness of the week ahead. Nothing my usual cup of tea and sleep spray won’t help.

We are total suckers and it was 100% the cats! I never get up at 6:30am on Sunday, but I did to feed them both and get early morning cuddles on the porch. It was bliss!

Glad that you're fine, bit of the overwhelm of thinking of the week ahead and kind of already getting into work mode before you've fully enjoyed your time off?

Cup of tea sounds perfect... in fact I bought a cat teapot from a charity shop on my way home today... I'll post it because you might get a kick out of it. £5!

Good - I had a very enjoyable early trip to B&M and had a trolly full of shit that I’m sure I’ll never use!
Bad - my toddler has been a little gremlin all day today and refused to sleep for his afternoon nap for the first time ever in his life which sent him on a downward spiral for the remainder of the day, my newborn has been particularly grizzly and only milk calms her down so she’s been on a non-stop feeding frenzy, and my partner’s parents had a four hour visit with us which, whilst they’re lovely, I find very intense as his mom has about 37,000 questions to ask me about the children but is so preoccupied with them that she doesn’t actually listen to any of my answers, so I never know whether to just carry on talking to myself or stop 😂 so their visit combined with a screaming baby, and a non-sleeping toddler while I’m three weeks postpartum resulted in a very draining day!

You need a whole new Sunday don't you?! Wow that sounds so full on - hope you bought some chocolate in your B&M spree?!

I was browsing houses on right move. When I saw a place that sounded absolutely perfect, I looked at google street view to check out the neighbourhood. My jaw hit the floor when I saw myself on the pavement opposite the house. In my entire life, I have only ever passed along that road once.

The good, my little person is having an overnight stay at the hospice so I have had a glass of wine and know I won't be needed in the night tonight.

The bad, don't think there has been any today.

petitpasta · 27/07/2025 20:36

The good - I batch cooked lasagne and fish pie so I have 4 lovely meals in the freezer for busy days. I also reached a weight loss goal - 80lbs down - and discovered that my lovely knee high boots fit me again.

The bad - I opted for a new broadband deal to save 35% but the confirmation email states 24 months at my old rate and the three times I have tried to call BT their system has cut me off at 30 minutes. I would cancel outright but we have fibre to the premises and I don't think I can go with anyone else at those speeds. With 3 of us working from home we're dependent on good fast broadband.

Congratulations! You rock those boots!

It's such a pig when that happens - I envisage similar nightmares ahead with my car insurance. Fingers crossed they sort it out for you and it's not outrageous £.

The good had leftovers for lunch and dinner today. So no cooking Sunday. Also got to nap while DC watched Telly. DH suddenly wanted to order my favorite snack. And was being extra sweet after I woke up from the said nap.

The bad DH being arse for the last few days until this afternoon. Piles of laundry.

I hope his being extra sweet extends to doing the extra laundry in that case!

The good: on holiday, had a lovely day and finished my book

The bad: fucking irritating inconsiderate family downstairs are soooooo loud on their patio - the other day they let their kids screech and scream in the pool until past 11pm. Weirdly we’re in a flat above a ground floor flat with a pool (these were described as bungalows so DH who does the holiday booking didn’t realise it was actually a flat). I’ll ring reception if they keep being loud even though this is our penultimate evening 🤭 it’s the principle! They don’t own the place!
