I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

Which “Talk radio” were you listening to?

saraclara · 27/07/2025 22:40

I went to a Lionesses' match at Wembley not long ago. I expected the crowd to be almost all women. But no. There were loads of men, lots of them dads and sons. I was really pleased.

Of the three men closest to me, one was actually at the semis in person the other day, the other has been going to the pub to watch all their Euro matches. The other one doesn't watch football at all, whoever's playing

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 27/07/2025 22:41

I remember back after the first Euros win reading some absolute tosser random bloke online say that England would only achieve true footballing glory when the mens team lift the world cup again. Knowing how much tonights win is going to be annoying twits like him only adds to the joy of it all really.

Convenient.

Well, luckily there is this hugely convenient search engine called Google. Why not try it out and have gander at England School Boys 100m results?

Arraminta · 27/07/2025 22:38

Sorry, didn't realise I was submitting a bibliography? Both examples have been discussed (and with links) recently on here.

Well, if you're going to make statements and present them as fact you should be able to back it up. Not just ' oh, I read it somewhere but can't remember who said it or when'.

You said it. You Google it and post links. Otherwise it's just bullshit you can't back up

if it’s the same guy I heard. Who also said women’s football is being shoved down our throats…. Like men’s football hasn’t for the last however many decades…. I mean I love football men’s and women’s. I prefer the women,I love how he mentioned it’s a man’s game… it’s not hard to change channel… no one’s forcing him at gunpoint to watch it …. Gotta love a bit of women’s sport to bring the sexist pigs out in full force.

My money's on LBC. That always seems to be full of angry Reform candidates white men.

I am watching it and took a couple of mins to post. I was very taken aback by the call which is the same one discussed here. The guy was saying we are shoving it down their throats and get it on a different channel. He was so hateful that a woman's football team was being shown.. I was shocked.

It’s not just men - the level of rage my mum showed yesterday when talking about the women’s football was just ridiculous. She was ranting incoherently about how it’s awful, nothing like the men’s and shouldn’t be on primetime telly.

I said I agreed, it was nothing like the men’s…at least the women’s team win silverware occasionally… 😂

I really don’t understand the level of bile directed towards them, often by men and women of a certain age (not to say exclusively that age group or even a majority of them - I’m not tarring a whole generation with the same brush here!). If you don’t like it, watch something else!

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 27/07/2025 22:48

It’s makes me laugh….these are the same angry men protesting about immigrants and pulling out the patriarchy vibes. But can’t be partrotic about their own country’s women’s football team.

The women of a certain age hits true. My DP aunt is 70, loves the men’s game but won’t even entertain the women’s game. Her youngest son like women’s football.

I don't know of any man who would choose to watch it, my husband and not one of his mates or his colleagues, would. Appreciate that they don't represent the whole of the males in the country etc.

Personally, would I watch it, no, I think its dire.

My husband and my son both chose to watch it.

Can't have those uppity women considering themselves equal, or even worse perhaps better than a man. Better cut them down to size, for their own sake of course.

Chloe, Michelle, Jess, Beth, Hannah back to the kitchen with you all.

Women are physically better at playing football. Tactics, check, endurance, check, best to feet, check. A game all the family can enjoy as a spectator sport. Check.

Your delusional. If the men missed that many penalties they would be hung drawn and quartered. It's great women's games are getting more tv and they will be getting paid more but to say they are better is a joke. Probably about a 15 year old league 1 level if that. Men and women shouldn't be compared because men will always be better. My dd does athletics she wouldn't beat a boy at the same level but it doesn't take away her talents as a female against other females. We need to stop comparing apples and pears.

Gunz · 27/07/2025 23:02

I have been following Womens football for 15+ years. As soon as there is a Women's tournament, the msygonists come out of the wood work in the MSM. I never look at the comments as 75% of them will be men trying to compare mens football with Women's with no reference to the 50 year ban imposed by the FA. Talk sport is just Talk 'Shite'

Cool. I do. I go to WSL games with my bf. He has a season ticket to our local team. He also comes to see my games. Went to pub with my brother and his mates (former pro footballers) to watch one of the games. My brother said he and his coaching partner talk about the games with their men's team in training. My dad was watching it, we go see womens national team whenever they are playing locally. We went to the Netherlands to watch the euros 2017, his suggestion. His colleagues (retired men 70+ yo) are all over the world and they text during men and womens game. My other brother went to see women's world cup in france with his sons. I don't know about my partners colleagues his two best friends watched cause they were texting through the game. So yeah.

I’m interested to find out if the women roll around on the floor and feign injury as much as the men do or if they just get on with it. Grin

The Italians did last week! Otherwise, not so much!!

Outside9 · 27/07/2025 23:04

That said, the penalties were pretty terrible lol

Right? My stepmum is the same. I don’t get it - they were both absolute flipping female powerhouses, crashing glass ceilings when they were younger but have always had this ‘that’s a man’s thing’ about some sports and trades. Totally oblivious to the strangeness of the dichotomy!

Denimrules · 27/07/2025 23:09

DH just said manager and team are role models that men's team need to take in digest and learn from

I do wonder what metrics are being used when people say 'better.' Better in what respect? (I am talking in football here.)

I felt he was more angry about it being shoved down our throats that we all must enjoy women's football as much as mens and it's terribly sexist if you don't.. I kinda get it

It’s strange but I haven’t actually seen any of the women’s football, as I choose not to watch any football at all, rugby is more my sport. How I have avoided it being ‘shoved down my throat’, I don’t know. Oh that’s right, I just didn’t turn on the TV, who knew?

MayaPinion · 27/07/2025 23:20

I’m astonished at the amount of butthurt and nasty comments. Surely people should be delighted that their country has won a major international competition in a sport they love.
