I was listening to talk radio and there was a very angry man on ranting away about womens football. He was basically saying put it on a different channel. Noone wants to watch, even his wife agrees. He was out of breath he was that mad. I was quite taken aback. Far enough if you dont like it, dont watch. Why on earth he was this upset I dont know! Whats with this disgusting reaction! How weird!!

@elfies does have a point, men's football is taken over by the amdrams and the WAGS. Hopefully women's footie doesn't suffer the same sideline drama with the creation of MABS. It's the 'mindset' that's different and why English Women can win on penalties when English men fail at this.

Sure, physically, men can outplay women, but then they play against other men and why generally men and women don't fully compete against each other in sports.

But the English men's footie team might want to learn some 'mindset' stuff from the English women who do bring the trophy home.

something to act as a reminder 😂

Angry men about womens football
SabreIsMyFave · 27/07/2025 21:52

Just saw a group of about 25 people come from my local village pub (10 minutes walk from me,) on the way back to their houses in the village (with England shirts and England scarves,) all cheering 'Eng-er-land!!!' They'd clearly been watching the match at the pub... Around 15 men and 10 women. So yep, as has been said, many men are interested (as well as women.) Utter shite that men aren't bothered!

.

bombastix · 27/07/2025 21:53

Is it fun to watch and less of a drag than watching the men? Yes. It’s enthusiasm and entertainment.

I heard men and women cheering from local pubs this evening. Presumably because it was a good craic and they enjoyed it. What’s wrong with that?

TaupeLemur · 27/07/2025 21:54

Twats! So many twats commenting all the time about stuff they know nowt about.
I coach women’s football. We hear this All the time and tune it out. Not interested in women’s football? Don’t watch it. I’m not overly interested in men’s footie anymore. I
also don’t watch darts, cricket, rowing and yet manage to both avoid them for the most part and avoid having ANGRY opinions about them.
it’s misogyny pure and simple and SO, So boring and passe.

Goatinthegarden · 27/07/2025 21:56

I don’t really watch football, other than the occasional World Cup/Euros match - and DH is even less interested than I am. But we’ve both been absolutely hooked on the last few matches of the woman’s Euros.

I think I’m much more emotionally invested in (and inspired by) watching women compete and push themselves in sports. It just feels more relatable to me than watching men. My niece plays for a football team and her dad (my brother) takes her to as many woman’s matches as he can. My brother says the vibe of the crowd feels much nicer too. I love that my niece has sporty role models to watch, when I was at school we were always pushed off the pitch by boys. Statistically lots of girls give up sport at puberty, it’s so good that they can see women pushing themselves and making a career out of it. Even seeing female coaches, managers, referees, etc. is broadening horizons.

Theonewhogotthecake · 27/07/2025 21:57

I know so many men who prefer watching women’s football because the game is ‘cleaner’ and has fewer politics.

Jc2001 · 27/07/2025 21:57

sciaticafanatica · 27/07/2025 20:59

I’m going to be honest and say I just find the women’s game lacklustre and slow.
but I also don’t enjoy men’s football either.

Not sure what point you're trying to make there. You don't like football and feel the need to tell everyone about it on the day the woman won a major tournament?

SabreIsMyFave · 27/07/2025 21:58

Sortin · 27/07/2025 21:49

I'm not really interested in sport of any kind but it seems to me that the women's version of most sports is different. Not better or worse just different. Tennis for example is a different game when women play. Ice hockey is the only sport I watch much of and again totally different games. I actually prefer the women's hockey as it's less aggressive ( though still rough).

I naively had no idea some men resented womens sport so much.

Some men resent women doing ANYthing other than cooking, cleaning, breeding, and waiting on them hand and foot. Some of them do NOT like women being high achievers, successful, and rich, and they don't like women being happy and vibrant without them.

NAMALT obvs! Grin

bombastix · 27/07/2025 22:00

Women, know your limits.

You cannot play football, be funny or achieve exactly like a man, so don’t bother….

Here misogynists of Mumsnet, I wrote it for you so you can carry on being a dull arse

emmetgirl · 27/07/2025 22:01

northernballer · 27/07/2025 18:31

Sounds like a cunt, there's a lot of them about unfortunately.

This.
With bells on 👏👏👏

Northernparent68 · 27/07/2025 22:01

Is it anymore important than any other sport ? Why does women’s football get more publicity than other women’s sports

So many vicious comments from men on X about the quality of the penalties taken. I mean, I would have thought given the England men's team history with sudden death play-offs they might just keep it buttoned, but no.

I bet they're all rightly sickened that the women's team are the ones to break the curse though. 🤣

Absolutely spot on. It's got to be embarrassing for them that the women have managed to win it twice as to the big fat zero the boys have produced.

I must admit I had a little cry when Chloe Kelly hit the back of the net because my dad, who always supported them and found them a better watch, even years back when they got no or very little TV coverage and about 7 people in the stands watching would have been SO happy and proud of them. He's not here anymore but I was cheering them on his behalf.

LadyHexham · 27/07/2025 22:02

I don't watch anyone chasing a ball but I was cross this afternoon when my friend's husband said football is a man's game.

When I challenged him he couldn't give a reason for his comment.

sciaticafanatica · 27/07/2025 22:04

@Jc2001i thought it was more polite than saying “ I thought it was shite”

placemats · 27/07/2025 22:04

As a person who is British, Northern Ireland, but not English and who loves Spanish football, I am absolutely delighted that England won today. What a match and so enjoyable to watch.

Well done the Lionesses. Fantastic win 👏 🎉💕

Easy- because we've won two major tournaments and football is the people's game.

My daughter plays cricket. Women's cricket is rising in popularity but not at the same rate as football.

Probably in the main because less people play cricket than football!

It's all good though, seeing the women's football team win internationally is inspirational to all sports women whether they are footballers or not.

Arraminta · 27/07/2025 22:06

elfies · 27/07/2025 21:21

Our male footballers would do better without the amateur dramatics !
If our ladies declared their gender as male , and played against the men , I think they'd stand a blooming good chance .

No, of course they wouldn't. The national women's Swiss team got trounced by just a local boys' under 15s team, for Heaven's sake.

Top Olympic female sprinters are still slower than the 16 year old youths sprinting for the England School Boys.

You cannot argue with basic physiology.

But, congratulations to the Lionesses.

BigDayForTheWomen · 27/07/2025 22:07

My DH has been avidly watching women's footie for about 18 months. Before that he found it uninteresting, but not any more because of how the game has improved over the last few years.
When women were unused to competing at this level, they obviously wouldn't play as well as men who have been learning and playing for generations. They are amazing now, and men who decline to see that are a sad example of die-hard misogeny.

BootTheGrimeOfThisWorldInTheCrotchDear · 27/07/2025 22:09

I asked my husband what he thought the difference was between the men's game and the women's game and he said with the women there's less rolling around on the floor pretending to be injured. And my teen boys sat watching the game and there's no way they'd denigrate the women's game. Haters gonna hate!! And frankly fuck em!!

NightDreaming · 27/07/2025 22:10

I’m finding it sad to see all the comments about “my husband…. Not interested… not as good as the men’s….”

Does that mean your husbands aren’t interest in watching women’s matches in any sport? Wimbledon? Any Olympic teams? Bloody beach ball?

yes women’s sport might not be as quick, as strong, as whatever as men’s, because you know what, they aren’t men. But they can be bloody skilled at what they do. If you can ignore the fact that each player doesn’t have testicles and just watch the skills, on the ball (/shuttlecock/frisbee/disc) against other player/teams on the same league/whatever it’s called you can appreciate great play.

the English men’s football has been pretty abysmal against other men’s team on similar levels for almost 3 decades. Don’t hear many to you saying your husbands won’t want the england men’s team play as they “aren't very good”.

And. Yes. My husband did watch today and he was ecstatic with our team. He was also there in person 4 years ago watching them win and couldn’t have been prouder of the England team.

Well done England. So impressed/proud of you all. ❤️

SunnyPrague · 27/07/2025 22:11

Ahh feck off, mister misery guts misogynist.

I’m sonproud of the girls and they’ll have inspired countless youngsters to lean into their sports.

RantzNotBantz · 27/07/2025 22:12

You cannot argue with basic physiology.

Which is why sport is divided along sex lines.

And why sex, not gender, matters in sport.

Women’s Football is women’s football, to be judged against opposing women’s teams.

And celebrated for success against other women’s teams.

Not denigrated for being not the same as men.

Jc2001 · 27/07/2025 22:12

sciaticafanatica · 27/07/2025 22:04

@Jc2001i thought it was more polite than saying “ I thought it was shite”

Why say anything though? It wasn't at all polite by the way.

You obviously feel the need to be heard.

Topsyturvy78 · 27/07/2025 22:12

Some men think football is a man's world. Same with woman driver's they think only men should be driving. Those men will also now be really because the women have won the Euro again.
