I would keep the bath, can’t you put a shower over it? Young families like a bath, even though it’s much more convenient and comfortable to wash little ones in the kitchen sink..

TheNightingalesStarling · 26/07/2025 20:19

Are you panning to live in it or sell it?

Live in it... do what works for your family.

Trying to sell... some people have issues with no bath, even if they only ever use it was every three years.

tilypu · 26/07/2025 20:20

I'm sure shower will win, but if you have a bath you can put a shower over it, and then you get the option.

I don't have a bath often, but it's one of my favourite ways to unwind, so I'm team bath (with shower)

kerstina · 26/07/2025 20:21

I wouldn’t buy a house without a bath.i love baths so relaxing. They keep me sane .

Notsomarryfloppins · 26/07/2025 20:22

We do have a shower over the bath, pretty decent one.
No one uses the bath regularly.
Family of 5 adults, 1 bathroom.

Planning in being here for at least 5 years

Are you planning to sell soonish or be carried out feet first??

Option A keep the bath
Option B go with a fully tanked walk in shower

GulliaumeDuc · 26/07/2025 20:22

I haven’t bathed for decades - I only ever shower. If it wasn’t for DD getting bathed, I’d happily get shut of it.

Sminty2 · 26/07/2025 20:34

Keep the bath!

would never buy a house without a bath and they are so wonderful. Peaceful, bubbly, warm and relaxing.

Sycamoretrees · 26/07/2025 20:36

Can you replace the bath with a shower tray of the same size to make it easier to swap back to a bath if new owners want one?

TomatoSandwiches · 26/07/2025 20:36

Standard baths are shite but useful for young children, keep it.

Sadcafe · 26/07/2025 20:39

It’s the usual personal choice, definitely a bath for us, shower for DS, both ideal. We recently moved, one of the houses we looked at only had a shower and it just made us say no

Dangermoo · 26/07/2025 20:40

YANBU. Can't be doing with faff of baths.

user2848502016 · 26/07/2025 20:46

unless you’re planning to live in the house until you die then keep the bath with shower over, no bath in a family home will decrease it’s value because potential buyers will likely have young children and have to budget for putting in a bath

Waterweight · 26/07/2025 20:47

Can you get a small bucket style bath (1100mm/1200mm) & fit a full size shower ?
Could also double as an oversized laundry basket if your not personally using it

& What's the head height for a shower over bath? Think about that before installing it "for kids" as said kids might outgrow it

Agree with this.

GOODCAT · 26/07/2025 20:49

We only have a shower, it is a wet room and would never want to go back to climbing into a shower let alone a bath. The previous owner had the same set up.

If we sell in future, a future buyer can decide to add a bath, but I would rather do what suits us rather than what might suit a hypothetical buyer.

Cloudylemonfade · 26/07/2025 20:49

We dont use the bath much but would never get rid of it. Why are you tempted if have a shower in the bath?

Vaxtable · 26/07/2025 20:56

I have a 3 bed, typical late 70s so two x double and one box room. One bathroom just big enough for Beth (shower over) toilet and sink. Haven’t had a bath in years so about 4 years ago I removed it, nice corner shower, lots more room and works for me

as I don’t intend to move I don’t care what happens when I die and the house is sold

do what works for you

Dearnurse · 26/07/2025 21:01

We've just done our family bathroom we went with a large roll top bath with a hand held shower head.. however we do have a bathroom with just a shower .. while it's been renovated I've missed having a bath & my 4 year old has been using an old baby bath 🤣 .. I wouldn't buy a house without a bath ...

IhadaStripeyDeckchair · 26/07/2025 21:25

Showers are more hygienic, environmentally friendly, easier to wash your hair, shave your legs etc and don't take ages to run.

The idea of a bath is always more attractive than the reality.

Not when they are over 2

DoYouReally · 27/07/2025 14:26

Never understood the love of a bath.

You are essentially lying in your own dirty as water gets colder. Nothing enjoyable about that.

I can't even remember last time I had a bath.

hmmimnotsurewhy · 27/07/2025 14:30

I think baths are so grim. Unless there’s small kids in the house. Shower is definitely the way to go

ThatGladTiger · 27/07/2025 14:37

Forget about what value it add if/when you sell.

What is best for you now? Take the bath out and replace with a large shower. Will be a nicer experience than a shower in bath.

If you do sell, you can always put a bath back in.

Live for today! Carpe Diem!

Sortalike · 27/07/2025 14:43

We're in the process of planning out our new bathroom and even though we rarely have a bath we're keeping it in - its not our forever home, but it is a good sized family home, so when we do move it will appeal to a certain group of buyers.

Our next house will be our forever home, and that's the house we will adapt to suit us best (i.e. the best, most powerful shower money can buy)
