If you are single with no kids, who do you go on holiday with?

Just that, really. I’m at a stage in my life where I feel like I have nobody my own age to go on holiday with. Vast majority of friends are in relationships, some with kids, the one or two who aren’t aren’t close enough really for me to suggest going away together. I know I can go on holiday on my own and I have done many times in the past, it’s just gotten old tbh. Just curious how other single people handle it.

YABU - I have friends (or others) to go on holiday with
YANBU - I have no one my own age to go on holiday with

Friends, parents, visit friends who live abroad or go alone

zibazee · 26/07/2025 20:40

My single childless friend joins me, my Dh and dc this year in our holiday abroad. She also goes travelling with her other friends whose dc are adults. She travels more than I and always with friends or visits friends.

JoanOgden · 26/07/2025 20:42

My best friend, other friends, married friends and their kids, group holidays. I just counted up and I'm going on holiday with 17 different people this year, in various combinations.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 26/07/2025 20:44

I’m married with kids…. but I choose to go on holiday with my dad every year and leave my family at home.

We get on well, enjoy the same things and it’s nice to be looked after instead of being the one looking after!

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 26/07/2025 20:46

DH goes on group holidays each year based on a hobby. They were all strangers initially but he’s made friends with some and there are some who go every year.

OP I am about to be living on my own as a single parent whose child is off to uni soon (hopefully!). I’m planning on doing some solo traveller group holidays.

When I first split up from my ex I really needed a break so left my son with my mum for a week and went to Greece on my own with Friendship Travel (a solo traveller type trip), it was amazing. I’ve done some single parent group holidays which have also been good.

So am now looking at solo traveller holidays with Intrepid, Explore, G Adventures, Flash Pack etc. And I believe Friendship Travel still exists!

Also don't assume people wouldn't go on holiday with you if they are married or have kids. I have a family and would still happily go away with a single friend for a long weekend.

It’s true. My sister used to go on holidays alone as her DP was not interested in stuff she was interested in plus he needed annual leave to visit his parents. She went with her old friend once who was single but it was a complete disaster so she continued solo.

Zempy · 26/07/2025 20:49

I am single and travel regularly with mates (all married) or with my adult DC or alone.

Yes, @Purpleturtle45 is right. I had my first trip with friends just before the pandemic (as my children were getting older) and have carried on since.

Oh gawd, I’m in awe of all the ladies able to travel alone. I have zero sense of direction and the anxiety of getting lost overwhelms any excitement a holiday might bring. I have the financial means but no one to go with! 😩

Doitrightnow · 26/07/2025 20:58

I was single for a decade and love travelling.

I did a combination of solo travel and group tours based around my interests (which included skiing and summer trips with companies like Oak Hall/Exodus/Intrepid, and group tours around hobbies, eg birdwatching trips, art retreats, golf, battlefield tour).

I would also combine solo travel with visiting friends I had living in those countries.

Had a great time.

You really don't need that much of a sense of direction in the age of Google Maps. Life is short. Just go.

can recommend g adventures. did a tour a few years ago and everyone in the group happened to be a female solo traveller, except two women who had come together as friends. And the tour guide who was male. big mix of ages, nationalities and backgrounds, and excellent itinerary! i’d love to do it again but i have loads of kids now…

I also have zero sense of direction. But I have a phone with Google maps and international data roaming! If I can do it, anyone can!

I’m dyspraxic and get lost everywhere. Getting lost on holiday alone is no drama. You just wander around a bit until you can work it out. Google maps is a life saver.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 26/07/2025 21:03

I've done a few holidays with friends (who are in relationships but happy to spend time apart. TBH I think one reason they like it is they can leave the organising to me. It's usually them in their relationships so they enjoy the break in both senses).

It depends on the holiday though. Generally and gradually I prefer to go alone. I prefer company if I'm travelling independently somewhere the language is tricky.

needNC · 26/07/2025 21:04

I always got away minus children with my bestie regularly over the years.
She went on Norwegian cruise and Antarctica solo.
I piss off to my favourite place in Mallorca once a year now children are adults.
Absolute heaven.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 26/07/2025 21:04

I go on my own. I'm an introvert with health issues and prefer my own space and company.

Whatever your hobby is, do that somewhere else in the world in a group.

mine is swimming.
so this company https://www.swimtrek.com/ is perfect. These kinds of holidays are perfect if you like your own space too, as you can dip in and out of company as you like

I’m another one who uses Google Maps alit, I don’t have a great sense of direction!

Ted27 · 26/07/2025 21:11

Another vote for exodus/explore/intrepid group holidays. Also Dragoman are back running trips if you have a bit more time
Depending on the trip you can join in with what you want to. Ive always found at least one person to pal up with

wendywoopywoo222 · 26/07/2025 21:12

I holiday twice year with my best friend and we have always done that even when I was married and we took her son when he was of an age to come with us.
I have a long weekend away every year with a group of girlfriends most of whom are married.

sometimes I will take a neice with me or holiday alone.
I love holidays

HappiestSleeping · 26/07/2025 20:00

I used to go to a travel agent with a packed bag, and say "I can be at the airport in an hour, where can I go?"

I had some fabulous holidays.

Does that work?

greenbuckets · 26/07/2025 21:33

I go with friends (whoever's available or suggests something!), family such as my mum, or on my own.
Holidays alone for me tend to be road trips in the UK or Ireland. Holidays with others tend to be shortish breaks. I take what I can get (usually enjoyable though!) and don't have any particularly regular holiday patterns.
