Malnourished starving children in Gaza

babyproblems · 26/07/2025 06:42

The photos that appeared this morning on my news updates of mothers holding their children, dying of starvation and extreme malnutrition in Gaza have absolutely broken my heart. I am not particularly news focused, of course I’ve followed it all but this morning it has stopped me in my tracks and took my breath away. As a mother of a 3yo DS who is sleeping peacefully in his bedroom, whilst we have a fridge full of food downstairs and a life of peace, I feel so sorry that those poor mothers and children are living this hell so undeserved and also so so lucky we have the peace we do…
I don’t really know what the point of my post is; I suppose I’m screaming When Will This End inside and want to tell everyone to not take the freedom and peace we have for granted; use your right to vote and use your privilege to make informed choices that steer the world away from conflict towards peace…

Sending a handhold to all the mothers’ whose lives are not being lived in peace and whose children are suffering 🕊️💔

I'm still waiting to see a photo of a "starving" Gazan which isn't:
AI generated (yes, we can tell).
Photoshopped.
More than one person in frame and/or
in the photo with well-fed-looking people.

BBC News at Ten, last night. Available on iPlayer. HTH.

shellinmypocket · 26/07/2025 12:41

Oh right so dehumanise one set of children to have empathy for the other. Okay then.

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/07/2025 12:42

Featherruffler · 26/07/2025 12:22

You are just riding on semantics here and twisting my words.
Then let’s call it hostile territory instead of enemy for your sake, so even you can understand what I’m trying to get across.

Twisting your words how? You said “Show me another country that actually feeds their enemy. This is what Israel is doing. They actually let food into Gaza.”
Pretty straightforward.
Your “crying into their Kleenex comment”was pretty straightforward too. Some people find footage of starving babies and children distressing. You may not. Each to their own.

What’s your opinion on hundreds of starving people being shot by the IDF as they queue for this bounty that the Israeli Government has graciously allowed into Gaza?

needtostopnamechanging · 26/07/2025 12:46

there are some truely revolting people on here

but I feel at least it’s the minority

Letstheriveranswer · 26/07/2025 08:44

The food is actually sitting inside Gaza but the problem seems to be in distributing it...people are desperate and start looting, it's not safe for lorry drivers to drive it in, Hamas attacks people trying to get aid and if anyone gets shot in the violent chaos Israel get blamed, so they want the UN to take responsibility for getting it to distribution centres but the UN are refusing.

Hamas are obstructing everything because they want to deliver it but then they steal it and sell it at high prices.

There are plenty of videos from inside Gaza of people clearly stating that Hamas are fully responsible for their misery.

It's very complex and the situation is catastrophic.

Having said that, there has been so much use of AI imaging and pictures from other conflicts and attributed to being pics from Gaza, that it's hard to know what is and isn't truth. Plus all the previous times we were told there was famine, and there wasn't, and even the UN finally admitted there wasn't. When the hostages were released every single man (not many women were out) in the Gazan crowds looked very well fed, clean and with fresh haircuts - and that was after we were previously told there was famine.

I hope it all ends soon.

Meanwhile I will wait for this thread to go down the inevitable route....

@Letstheriveranswer sure. Israel is completely innocent and this is Hamas. I agree it doesn't matter to to people who are starving which side is overall responsible for starving them. And right now that doesn't matter, they just desperately need aid. But Israel is stopping aid entering. Israel is stopping independent journalists entering. Israel is pushing more illegal settlements. Israel destroyed their homes. Israel displaced people. Israel killed has been killing a large number of unarmed civilians. Israel is suggesting a concentration camp of 600,000 people, initially, that can never leave. Israel is suggesting that the rest of the world evacuate the entire population of Gaza if they don't like how Israel is treating (murdering and starving) them. Israeli leaders are wanted for war crimes. 1200 dead was wrong, and it should not have happened. 240 hostages was wrong, and it should not have happened. But 59,000 and counting is way worse. You have got your your revenge. It's long past time to stop now.

But if you are going to claim that any criticism is anti-semitic in order to immediately shut down any debate then you are a perfectly example of why many people fear and distrust Israel.

Togetheragain45 · 26/07/2025 12:50

It's absolutely horrific. The first natural instinct of a mother is to feed their baby. I can't even begin to imagine the desperation of those mothers who can't do this. It beggars belief.

'A British doctor who has worked in Gaza has said that his colleagues have been prevented from taking baby formula into hospital.

Professor Nick Maynard, a volunteer surgeon at Nasser hospital, told Good Morning Britain on Friday (25) that he has seen "appalling malnutrition.”

"If you go through a checkpoint, you get searched as a doctor and if you've got any baby formula in your pockets or in your bag, [Israeli officials] will confiscate it from you," he said.'

https://www.independent.co.uk/tv/news/gaza-israel-doctor-baby-formula-video-b2795831.html

I didn't know this. It makes me even angrier than I already was. These poor people. They have been treated appalling and are dehumanised so much by the other side than even babies are not allowed to live.

JSMill · 26/07/2025 13:01

I feel utterly desperate. I saw a photo this morning of a child who should weigh 13kg but weighs 6. His mum was using a bin bag as a nappy. I can’t believe the posters who try to minimise this or make excuses or are determined to not apportion any responsibility to the Israeli government. If the IDF wanted to facilitate the safe distribution of food, they would.
I suppose we should welcome the RAF dropping food, but I expect those drop offs will result in utter chaos.

Yes I have heard that dissenters in Isreal are losing their jobs - the parallels with 1930s Germany grow stronger all the time

Gary Lineker, nice of you to join us.

Topjoe19 · 26/07/2025 13:08

It is dreadful. I cannot imagine it, it breaks my heart, those poor innocent children.

Simonjt · 26/07/2025 11:01

Apparently we aren’t allowed to reply factually as the posters considers actual knowledge on malnutrition to be fat shaming.

No one knows if the claim to knowledge of nutrition is true. You don't know my background and the level of my expertise in nutrition. And we all have eyes of course, we can all see the parents.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 26/07/2025 13:14

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/07/2025 12:51

Hear, hear.

Why does a random post by a random mumsnetter in the UK make anyone distrust Israel?

As an aside, I've been accused of being an Israeli agent on here which is hilarious and horrifying in equal measure. It's not like I post on this topic often, I'm literally a random who might post on a thread or two on active.

custardlover · 26/07/2025 13:17

Some of you I judge. I shake my head. I give you my deepest contempt. I also pity you, I think it must be awful to be you as deep down you must feel the wrongness of your arguments. It must be exhausting to keep it up.

cimena · 26/07/2025 13:18

Holy shit there are a lot of frightening posts in this thread. I can’t decide if I’d rather they’re real people who actually think this or some kind of active PR op, both options are bad

banquepopulaire · 26/07/2025 13:19

"You don't know my background and the level of my expertise in nutrition"

'Expertise?' Go back under your rock.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 26/07/2025 09:58

Letstheriveranswer's post is ccompletely correct. There is a massive amount of aid in Gaza not being distributed. It's just that the truth doesn't fit some people's worldview.

I have seen pictures of starving children on the knees of mothers who, put it this way, definitely aren't. What is going on?

Imagine being so willing to show everyone youre a shit human! Incredible

Disagreeing with your personal opinions ≠ being a 'shit human'. We're all supposed to be grown-ups here.

We don't get rational debate on these threads do we? We get insults, abuse and an attempted pile-on to intimidate anyone who dares disagree with the self-appointed Most Moral™️. It's why they always end up with only the same small group on them - not because everyone agrees, there are plenty of different opinions at the start, but because it's not worth the effort. They don't change minds with their histrionic abuse, they just get boring, and they don't add value to the site.

banquepopulaire · 26/07/2025 13:32

@Alltheprettyseahorses - how dare you proclaim on here who is starving and who is not. Have you ever been starving? Has your baby ever starved? Your attitude literally beggars belief.

Dangermoo · 26/07/2025 13:32

Lifesd · 26/07/2025 11:34

But I don’t think people are necessarily justifying what Isreal is doing anymore than people who are being accused of sympathising with Hamas. Most rational people can accept that it isn’t as black and white as that.

👏 👏

She has said what many, outside MN are saying. More guilt tripping and moral one-upmanship.

Featherruffler · 26/07/2025 13:42

An emotional appeal is always very efficient, especially pictures of hungry children, but is it going to change the Palestinians’ “From river to the see” stubborn mindset?
Because you know what that slogan means, right?
