Malnourished starving children in Gaza

The photos that appeared this morning on my news updates of mothers holding their children, dying of starvation and extreme malnutrition in Gaza have absolutely broken my heart. I am not particularly news focused, of course I’ve followed it all but this morning it has stopped me in my tracks and took my breath away. As a mother of a 3yo DS who is sleeping peacefully in his bedroom, whilst we have a fridge full of food downstairs and a life of peace, I feel so sorry that those poor mothers and children are living this hell so undeserved and also so so lucky we have the peace we do…
I don’t really know what the point of my post is; I suppose I’m screaming When Will This End inside and want to tell everyone to not take the freedom and peace we have for granted; use your right to vote and use your privilege to make informed choices that steer the world away from conflict towards peace…

Sending a handhold to all the mothers’ whose lives are not being lived in peace and whose children are suffering 🕊️💔

What genocide? There are 2 million Palestinians inside Gaza. Do you really think that Israel would blatantly starve all of them to death in front of the whole world and earn their condemnation?
I know you will say yes to that question.

There's none so blind who cannot see.

It’s happening now. Thank providence the world is finally waking up to it.

Well they are having a good go at it and the hardliners in the Israeli government make no qualms about it . If they get their way I’m not sure what the future will be for Isreal.

The food is actually sitting inside Gaza but the problem seems to be in distributing it...people are desperate and start looting, it's not safe for lorry drivers to drive it in, Hamas attacks people trying to get aid and if anyone gets shot in the violent chaos Israel get blamed, so they want the UN to take responsibility for getting it to distribution centres but the UN are refusing.

Hamas are obstructing everything because they want to deliver it but then they steal it and sell it at high prices.

There are plenty of videos from inside Gaza of people clearly stating that Hamas are fully responsible for their misery.

It's very complex and the situation is catastrophic.

Having said that, there has been so much use of AI imaging and pictures from other conflicts and attributed to being pics from Gaza, that it's hard to know what is and isn't truth. Plus all the previous times we were told there was famine, and there wasn't, and even the UN finally admitted there wasn't. When the hostages were released every single man (not many women were out) in the Gazan crowds looked very well fed, clean and with fresh haircuts - and that was after we were previously told there was famine.

I hope it all ends soon.

Meanwhile I will wait for this thread to go down the inevitable route....

Shame on you.

I agree. Israel is already weakened. The IDF can no longer claim to be the "most moral army in the world".🙄

Netanyahu's response to the 7/10 attack has exceeded Hamas hopes and expectations. Him and his hatefilled, far right government need to go for the sake of both Gaza and Israel as well as the West Bank and the whole ME.

I'm honestly sick to death of the words "but Hamas!"
The world knows this is all Israel's fault, the world knows that Israel lies, the world knows that most Israelis don't see Palestinians as human and the 'settlers' are state sanctioned thugs
So shut up about Hamas
It isn't Hamas forcibly starving babies women and men- it is all Israel and it is disgusting.

But it isn’t just one photo of one child that is being circulated as proof of the issue is it? There are photos of other children, accounts from charities, hospital workers and NGOs, plus admission from Israel that ‘aid corridors’ must be opened.

It is a real low point, I feel, that people are looking at victims in a war zone and judging whether they look thin enough to pity. Would you like their before and after weight listed below the image too, just to check?

If you look at images of Gaza before the war v now, read independent accounts of what is happening in hospitals there, read NGO reports or news articles, it is unbelievable that you can still shrug it off as some sort of propaganda campaign. This is how war crimes are going to continue to be committed.

Re your aid comments, please provide sources for this version of events. Because my sources point to Israel’s army killing aid workers. Any independent, trustworthy sources will do. Happy to provide sources if that would help.

It’s tricky getting independent sources as Israel have tried ban all outside media. Still, we re seeing the footage, Israeli, the world can see what you’re doing.

Just to counter argue, and show you the other side of the story. But listen to it from start to finish and don’t just dismiss it as Israeli propaganda without giving your full attention.

These two are a couple of conspiracy theory clowns.

Any malnourished or starving child is awful, not just in Gaza.

Coolasfeck · 30/07/2025 12:05

The pictures I’ve seen break my heart. I can’t believe what we’re witnessing this in realtime. I don’t want to even imagine what it must feel like to watch your child waste away.

MrDobbs · 30/07/2025 12:31

"if anyone gets shot in the violent chaos Israel get blamed, so they want the UN to take responsibility for getting it to distribution centres but the UN are refusing."

This is categorically false. The Israel government have prevented all UN agencies from operating in Gaza, on the basis that they are Hamas operatives.

The UN have been administering aid to war and famine zones since WW2. They know what they are doing - e.g. spreading aid distribution over many sites to avoid stampedes, providing a nutritionally balanced package that people are able to cook safely when clean water is not available to prevent disease spread, providing nutritional supplements to try and reverse malnutrition that children in particular will already be suffering from (and just re feeding is not enough), and of course, not firing bullets into people waiting for food. And not switching off power to water treatment plants.

The GHF are doing none of the above and it isn't because they are unable to find out how to distribute aid or unable to allow experienced UN teams in.

It seems very easy to start bandying that term around. There are plenty of Jewish people who also find the actions of the Israeli government unconscionable.

Bunnybenty · 30/07/2025 13:12

While I do think the suffering in Gaza is terrible.

I do also wonder, why does no one care that much when children starve in other countries. Which has been happening and has largely been ignored.

Children starving in other countries, lets ignore it and get on with our lives

Children starving in Gaza- this is terrible and the worst thing that i have ever seen.

It doesn't make sense.

But children starving is already happening in other countries.

So why can't you believe that we are witnessing this?

Radioundermypillow · 30/07/2025 13:15

Because so called Westernised rich governments aren't deliberately doing it as a weapon of war?

Starving children are starving children. Many starving children in other countries have happened as a result of wars too.

Every child's life is worth the same. We should be outraged at every starving child. But people have not been.

Hamiltonfan · 30/07/2025 14:36

Makes you wonder why none of the adults are remotely malnourished..

Babies starve before adults as they have less fat and reserves to live off. They are also weaker physically to start with.

But it is Hamas' fault. If they released the abused hostages the war would end. Simple. And why should Israel have the responsibility of feeding the people it is at war with? Did we feed the Germans in WW2?
Don't want a war and all that goes with it, don't massacre teens at a music festival, people in their own homes. Hamas knew Israel would fight back. They have won the PR war but even they will be amazed at how the west have fallen for their propaganda.
