Malnourished starving children in Gaza

babyproblems · 26/07/2025 06:42

The photos that appeared this morning on my news updates of mothers holding their children, dying of starvation and extreme malnutrition in Gaza have absolutely broken my heart. I am not particularly news focused, of course I’ve followed it all but this morning it has stopped me in my tracks and took my breath away. As a mother of a 3yo DS who is sleeping peacefully in his bedroom, whilst we have a fridge full of food downstairs and a life of peace, I feel so sorry that those poor mothers and children are living this hell so undeserved and also so so lucky we have the peace we do…
I don’t really know what the point of my post is; I suppose I’m screaming When Will This End inside and want to tell everyone to not take the freedom and peace we have for granted; use your right to vote and use your privilege to make informed choices that steer the world away from conflict towards peace…

Sending a handhold to all the mothers’ whose lives are not being lived in peace and whose children are suffering 🕊️💔

My observation is not from the rarefied and anonymous world of Mumsnet but from real life and real people. Social media comments too, which are posted by real people in the real world. We are not living in the 70s anymore when you only knew the opinion of those living close to you and the only news you read was from the tv, radio and the papers.

I hate to break it to you but in terms of the people you’re actually exposed to, you probably know or hear from a very small number of Muslim people in the world. So your sweeping statements are unfair at best. Social media algorithms mean you’re more likely be exposed to similar thinking individuals so you’re not getting an accurate picture of people’s views across the spectrum. You’re creating a very specific image of the world by relying on the views that you’re being fed. I apologise though if your job or life style means that you know a significant number of the Muslim population well enough to understand their political views and to be able to conclude that they all think as you say they do.

There's talk of children in critical condition being treated in the UK.

Good. About time.

Your being offended by what I wrote won’t change facts. You can be offended for days and weeks, it is meaningless.
And btw you are being very very naive. A typical westerner with a soft bleeding heart.
If a poisonous snake bites you, you probably want to take it home and take care of it. Though I understand there are people like that…humanity is very diverse.

Why are you blaming Israel when there’s a very big border with Egypt? Where is your condemnation of them?

What’s mind blowing is the lack of anger towards the regime who refuses to surrender and end this war and the suffering of their people- Hamas.

I am blaming Israel because their Gov is killing thousands of Palestinian civilians. I hold Israel accountable for their actions - but I know many like you would like to blame others, literally anyone else for dropping the bombs and shooting innocent civilians - even Egypt now...I was going to say it's laughable but it really isn't - it's completely tragic.
I don't think there is any point in dialogue with people like you. I just hope the other world leaders will soon step up - shame on them for continuing to support Israel.

Starving babies aren't 'poison snakes' and there's no justification for using children searching for aid as target practice. The only people left trying to justify this depravity are swivel eyed loons.

Perhaps because Egypt has not invaded Gaza and is not the occupying power?

They can still let in humanitarian aid. Easily. And they choose not to help. Yet you don’t condemn this. Ok.

Can you imagine repercussions for Egypt, from Israel if they did this? They've already also bombed Syria, Lebanon, Iran. Whilst Egypt have formally had control over the rafah border, in reality they open or shut it at the request of the Israeli government.

That is my hope too. For the governments who are in the pocket of the Israeli lobbyists it will take longer but I think (or just hope) the tides are turning. I have been really angry reading the posters who justify, deny or simply ignore the obvious wrongdoings of the Israeli government but now I’m just numb to their comments.

I’m not offended. Just engaging in debate and explaining that you are presenting opinion as fact. You cannot speak to the views of millions as if they are one homogeneous group and claim you know how they all think. It is nonsensical.

I can see you think you have me all figured out despite knowing very little about me, including my heritage or culture. You are only proving my point that you are speaking about people about whom you know nothing and it weakens your argument.

Don’t believe everything you see !

hamas Started this
habas are not laying down arms or releasing hostages. And are stealing aid. The un are preventing aid deliveries and some tip in officials on the ground are now being removed due to working for hamas

these are terrorists who murder their own people, use their children as shields, have stolen billions in foreign aid and teach their children all about marrying themselves and hate.

It’s broken my heart for the past 600 days. Nothing to offer except to say I feel the same 😞. One day history will look back on this in utter shame. The only thing I’ve found helpful is finding others in my community who feel similarly and taking what small actions we can. I just can’t believe this is happening again, in the 21st century and basically enabled and sponsored by the West. It’s sick.

Using children as shields is abhorrent. So is choosing to shoot/bomb those shields.

You’re comparing apples and oranges. Israel didn’t attack these countries because they gave humanitarian aid to Gaza.

And Egypt has a massive border because THEY want it, not because Israel demands it.

The conflict between Israel and Palestine started a long time before Hamas existed.

Not sure if people will be able to read it but Hayley Freedman wrote a good article about it in the Times.

https://www.thetimes.com/article/b22a0061-3998-4610-9e16-571034071bd4?shareToken=6cdfcda3e70200ba88fa42a27f516811

The Israeli government have an obligation to make sure the people in Gaza have food.

Obviously Hamas are utterly appalling, killing all those young people at the music festival and all the other things they have done.

But Gazan babies have nothing to do with Hama's behaviour. As the occupying miltary power Israel are reponsible for the welfare of the civilian population.

They can't wash their hands of it and say Hamas might get some of the food. That's a potential side effect that they need to address. It doesn't absolve them of responsibility.

It's absolutely horrific, but I force myself to detach myself from it because I do feel powerless to actually do anything.
There's also so much misinformation out there, regarding who is doing what or who isn't doing what. Does anyone actually know any genuine way of actually helping?

Take your information from reliable sources - the UN, WHO, WFP, MSF, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty international. They will all tell you that Israel is carrying out a genocide - 3 of the 4 concluded that in Dec 2024. Look it up.
Oxfam and 99 other NGOs have signed a letter accusing Israel of manufacturing starvation in Gaza as a tool of war.

The conflicting information comes from Israel. Even Human Rights NGOs inside Israel are saying very similar things.

Saying 'oh I don't know who to believe' - well it's very similar to the MMR vaccine sceptics. Do you believe dedicated teams of experts who have written exhaustive studies on the topic and who have been on the ground during the genocide (eg MSF) or do you believe a man wanted for fraud who has stalled his court date by committing genocide? (Netanyahu).
The UK govt is involved in this and involving our armed forces in this, we have been listed among the complicit countries by the UN. So we have a duty to know. And a duty to tell our elected government they don't get to help starve children to death on our name.

Barnbrack · 27/07/2025 18:07

The Bibas babies were murdered and strangled by Hamas and their bodies held ransom. No condemnation on the protest marches against the monsters that did that. Not once - never. Why not eh? It's more pertinent to ask WHY are their lives not as worthy as Gazan children to the western pro Gazan supporter. The children who are not getting aid in Gaza are suffering at the hands of Hamas - who are not handing out the aid. Hamas who use money instead of for food for bombs and tunnels. By not speaking out on protests against Hamas I believe that the result is supporting the oppression of Gazan children.

The children in Gaza are struggling due to a conflict in numbers 50-100 times as high as the number killed by Hamas in Israel almost 2 years ago.

There were no protests early on either but as the conflict continues, as hundreds of thousands due, as Israel refuses to let up and gazans are dehumanized by the Israeli stance as Israel admits trying to wipe them out and deliberate starvation. Now there are protests, now the world is looking on and saying this may not directly involve me and it may be far away but this absolute horror and historical abomination needs to stop.

That's why there are protests.

But you know that, don't you? You understand the false equivalency.

If I was in Gaza and Israel after all they have done said 'no I just give up all weapons and we'll treat all the people here as human again...' I'm not convinced I'd rush to believe them.

The food is actually sitting inside Gaza but the problem seems to be in distributing it...people are desperate and start looting, it's not safe for lorry drivers to drive it in, Hamas attacks people trying to get aid and if anyone gets shot in the violent chaos Israel get blamed, so they want the UN to take responsibility for getting it to distribution centres but the UN are refusing.

Hamas are obstructing everything because they want to deliver it but then they steal it and sell it at high prices.

There are plenty of videos from inside Gaza of people clearly stating that Hamas are fully responsible for their misery.

It's very complex and the situation is catastrophic.

Having said that, there has been so much use of AI imaging and pictures from other conflicts and attributed to being pics from Gaza, that it's hard to know what is and isn't truth. Plus all the previous times we were told there was famine, and there wasn't, and even the UN finally admitted there wasn't. When the hostages were released every single man (not many women were out) in the Gazan crowds looked very well fed, clean and with fresh haircuts - and that was after we were previously told there was famine.

I hope it all ends soon.

Meanwhile I will wait for this thread to go down the inevitable route....

Human Rights Watch and Amnesty... 😂😂

....aaaand the UN and Oxfam and Save the Children and Medicins Sans Frontiers (MSF) one of the most highly respected medical NGOs in the world with huge experience of war (and of genocide).
Oh and, Prof Omer Bartov and Prof Amos Goldstein, Israeli professors of Holocaust and genocide studies. And Dame Helena Kennedy.

The former head of Human Rights Watch at the time of its excellent report into Israeli apartheid (before Oct. 7th and before the genocide report) is Kenneth Roth a Harvard educated Jewish-American human rights lawyer whose father fled the Nazis.

Please do share with us your superior qualifications that allow you to sneer at Human Rights Watch and Amnesty?

The post you replied to is completely at odd with what the experts on the ground have said. The UN, Oxfam, Save the Children, MSF and 97 other international NGOs have written a letter stating that Israel is manufacturing mas starvation, Israel is preventing them moving food into or around the territories. See link below.

www.savethechildren.net/news/mass-starvation-spreads-across-gaza-more-100-ngos-make-urgent-plea-allow-life-saving-aid

ThisNattyTurtle · 27/07/2025 18:47

Meanwhile international doctors including Oxford surgeon Professor Nick Maynard, Plastic surgeon Ms. Victoria Rose, Orthopedic surgeon Graeme Groome, have witnessed mass influx of victims shot or bombed at the Israeli operated "aid distribution sites" where food boxes are placed on the ground and the crowd of starving people get 10 min to try to grab something.
Prof. Maynard described how the Israeli soldiers targeted different body parts on different days - one day it was a stream of young boys shot in the testicles. Let that really sink in.

His account is corroborated by whistleblower former US Green Beret commander Anthony Aguilar who was there as a US mercenary and left after seeing soldiers shooting civilians who tried to get food.
