To find some of the social media protest about Gaza a bit… virtue-signally?

Obviously what’s happening is horrific and deserves attention but sometimes the way people go about “raising awareness” feels more like it’s about them than the actual issue.

Example: someone I know posted an Insta story of herself at the opera saying “at the opera but can’t help but think of the people in Gaza.” I mean… wtf? It just felt really performative and tone-deaf. Like, you’re at a luxury event and using it as a moment for global suffering commentary?

AIBU to feel that a lot of this is more about people wanting to appear caring than actually doing anything meaningful?

YABU. She’s right. We are all continuing our lives whilst unspeakable acts of horror are taking place. It doesn’t hurt to acknowledge that.
