DP’s new football flag has given me the ick!

DP is a big football fan and they have been promoted so he is excited for the new season to start. He goes with a group of 5/6 mates and they always have a flag to take to away matches. To mark their promotion, they’ve ordered a new one.

DP took delivery of it yesterday. It is an England flag with the club badge on it. They have added the text ‘On the charge with Farage’ 😩

Instant ick…am I overreacting!?

I'd have to leave him, and I'd seriously wonder how you'd let yourself get embroiled with this sort of meathead in the first place.

As a child of an immigrant- can you point me in the direction of said racist statements please?

Holding an opposing political view to someone else’s doesn’t make a person a racist.

Agree. Rather than blaming people for turning to Reform, I think the blame lies squarely with the two political parties who over the years have made such a dogs dinner of things , that people feel disenfranchised and betrayed in their own country - enough to turn to Farage and his mates. And now, seemingly Corbyn has followed suit and formed his own party to which some will inevitably gravitate. Put the blame where it belongs. Two main political parties who don’t give a stuff about the electorate because they’re too busy feathering their own nests and fawning over their rich friends, while unashamedly widening the gap between rich and poor.

Lovemycat2023 · 25/07/2025 15:44

I go to a lot of lower league football. I am always pleased to see an increase in diversity in crowds. The people it will upset may be those fans, especially new ones and families. Massive slow handclap to your racist husband and I hope the fans around him stand up to him.

@anytipswelcome has already provided a selection.
Honestly, I can’t believe anyone who doesn’t realise it by this point. It’s obvious. Same for the employees of his Limited Company (who you may call representatives of his Party, except it’s not really one…) several of whom have been found out doing racist and/or violent things.

Here you go:

Praising Enoch Powell’s “Rivers of Blood” speech
Farage named Enoch Powell as one of his political heroes and said the “basic principle” behind Powell’s infamous anti-immigration speech was correct. That speech is widely condemned as one of the most racist in British political history, warning of violent consequences if immigration continued.

Saying he’d be uncomfortable living next to Romanians
In a 2014 interview, Farage said he would feel uncomfortable living next to Romanians. When asked why that would be different from, for example, Germans (like his wife), he replied, “You know the difference.” This was widely condemned as racially stereotyping an entire nationality.

Defending the use of a racial slur about Chinese people (I don’t want to write it here but it’s unfortunately a widely known one)
When a UKIP candidate used the racial slur “ch__ky,” Farage defended it, saying it was a term many British people used casually when going for Chinese food. His comments were condemned for downplaying and normalizing racist language.

Using the “Breaking Point” anti-immigration poster
During the Brexit campaign, Farage unveiled a poster showing a queue of non-white refugees with the slogan “Breaking Point.” The image was criticized as racist and compared to Nazi propaganda, as it implied that non-white immigrants were overwhelming Britain.

DestituteDesperate · 25/07/2025 15:45

On the charge with Farage sounds so cringe.

Funny how certain clubs traditionally aligned themselves with political parties and now it’s considered so cringe.

Would you have the same ick if it was ‘being erratic with the Liberal Democratics’ or is it just this particular person/party.

Personally I think Nigel is scum for how he has treated a very honourable man, a footballing man at that, Rupert Lowe.

That may or may not be true.
Doesn’t alter the fact that Farage and his gang are racist and anyone supporting them therefore is also or is happy to support racism. Nothing to do with opposing political views or the effectiveness or otherwise of other parties.

He can have his flag or his relationship, home, sex with you.

I would t want sex with me to be a reason why my partner rejects racism.

He should know right from wrong himself.

Nope. But it’s everything to do with that disillusionment giving Farage an in he wouldn’t otherwise have had.

Sexist, too...

Defending Trump’s “grab ’em by the pussy” remark: He described it as “locker room banter” and “alpha‑male boasting”, dismissing sexual assault remarks as banter. Speaking of which...

Defended the rhetoric of Andrew Tate, who has been accused of multiple rapes and human trafficking: In 2024 Farage called Andrew Tate an “important voice” for men despite his misogynistic rhetoric and despite the fact that he had very publicly been arrested for rape, human trafficking and forming an organised crime group to exploit women two years beforehand.

He said, of Tate, "It’s like the men are becoming feminine and the women are becoming masculine and it’s a bit difficult to tell these days who’s what. And Tate fed into that by saying, ‘Hang on, what’s wrong with being a bloke? What’s wrong in male culture? What’s wrong in male humour?’ He fed into those things. His was a campaign of raising awareness, his was a campaign of giving people perhaps a bit of confidence at school or whatever it was to speak up …”

When reminded of the multiple charges he faces in Romania (which also followed previous accusations in the UK of rape and abuse) he said that Tate “maybe took that alter‑ego of masculinity too far in his relationships with women” and that “some of the things he had said … were over the top,” saying the “jury is out” on his character as a whole.

Denying the demonstrable gender pay gap: He claimed the only reason for the gender pay gap is women not being willing to 'sacrifice family life' like men do. “I don’t believe there is any discrimination… young, able women who are prepared to sacrifice the family life… do as well, if not better, than men.” See also “It’s difficult to change the ‘fact of life’ that women will earn less than men when they return to some jobs after childbirth.”

Criticised women breastfeeding in public: “I think that given that some people feel very embarrassed by it, it isn’t too difficult to breastfeed a baby in a way that’s not openly ostentatious. Or perhaps sit in the corner, or whatever it might be.”

@Zellycat you might want to read these too?

Rosscameasdoody · 25/07/2025 15:49

Nope. But it’s everything to do with that disillusionment giving Farage an in he wouldn’t otherwise have had.

So when you get a bit disillusioned you turn out racist? Is that what you are saying? Whatever else is wrong, you don’t support a racist unless you at best are happy to support racism and at worst share that racism. No excuses.

Floogal · 25/07/2025 16:00

Do they like Morrissey too?

Mangetouts · 25/07/2025 16:03

Ugh. I'd be leaving him and his flag.

cardibach · 25/07/2025 16:06

@Zellycat nobosy is saying he shouldn’t have/fly a flag. Nobody.
What people are objecting to is a political message on the flag - something banned by the FA. In addition they are expressing personal disgust at the politics concerned. Divisive, racist, sexist and on top of that proclaiming uncosted and fantasy ‘policies’.

RelativelyQuietNow · 25/07/2025 16:08

Awful!

Just wait until he is draping it over your hotel balcony….

BlokeHereInPeace · 25/07/2025 16:08

Season ticket holder here (not Burnley, who are a decent club). It's a shit flag. If they try draping it over the fences at the front or whatever it will get removed straight away. Many football fans, who have worked hard to move the game away from the racist shit we endured for so long, will take offence at this flag. Many in the ground will think that he is a knob for having any kind of political flag.

I think he's a knob too, if you were wondering.

He says it will be fine to take in as stadiums only check the size of flags rather than the content.

Well, I was over in Switzerland for the Euros last week with my huge England flag. The search team at the stadium did ask me what the words meant. So ..... don't be too sure that it couldn't happen over here.

For completeness, my flag says "We're gonna score one more than you", which was deemed to be fine ..... and actually quite truthful thus far.

Roar, Lionesses, ROAR 😍

gattocattivo · 25/07/2025 16:11

Wow.

Hubro · 25/07/2025 16:13

Just having a flag with the club badge on it would put me off. I see all these St George’s flags draped in town squares when England play away and it’s not for me.

Lots of grounds check. Queueing at Tottenham’s away end they were definitely opening up all flags and removing a lot of them. My team have a Ukrainian player, but no Ukraine flags were allowed. Your husband’s definitely wouldn’t have passed!

JimStirlingsPenisTransplant · 25/07/2025 16:18

I am a massive Burnley fan and its fans like your fella that give us all a bad name. I would be mortified if I was you and as a fellow Burnley supporter, I am embarrassed.
I will never forget seeing the plane with a ‘white lives matter’ banner flying over Turf Moor at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement, I was utterly ashamed by it. Wasn’t your fella who paid for that too was it? 🤔
