Hi, trying to work out where we could go holiday in October half term. Somewhere hot, not more than approximately 7 hours on a plane ideally, not hurricane season, not the UAE (used to live there so variety would be good!) guaranteed sunshine hopefully as it’s the first trip abroad for a long, long time! Would be with an 8 and 10 year old also. Thank you! (Posted under another topic but haven’t really gained much traction)

Turkey, Canaries, Southern Spain, Cape Verde.

Egypt will be hot but it's a shit hole.

Canaries, Cape Verde or Barbados (it's lower than the hurricane belt).

We are going to St Lucia in October half term. We went in February and loved it so much, we booked to return. As already pointed out on here, it tends to be missed by hurricanes.

Hi! That sounds like a lovely plan — October half term is a great time to get a bit of sunshine before winter sets in. Here are a few ideas that should tick your boxes: warm weather, within ~7 hours flight time from the UK, not hurricane-prone, and great for kids aged 8 and 10:

  1. Canary Islands (Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria)
  • Flight time: ~4.5 hours
  • Weather: Around 25–28°C, lots of sunshine
  • Why go: Great beaches, family-friendly resorts, water parks like Siam Park, volcanoes to explore (e.g., Mount Teide). Very reliable weather even in October.
  1. Egypt (Red Sea resorts like Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh)
  • Flight time: ~5–6 hours
  • Weather: Hot and dry, around 30°C
  • Why go: Snorkelling and diving with colourful coral reefs, desert adventures, family-friendly resorts with pools and water slides. No hurricane risk, and it’s a fantastic mix of beach and culture.
  1. Madeira (Portugal)
  • Flight time: ~4 hours
  • Weather: Around 23–26°C, quite mild but very sunny
  • Why go: Gorgeous landscapes, outdoor adventure activities, and it’s more low-key and nature-focused — perfect if you want some relaxation with light exploring.
  1. Cyprus
  • Flight time: ~4.5–5 hours
  • Weather: Typically 25–28°C in late October
  • Why go: Beautiful beaches, lots of history, and very family-friendly. Paphos and Limassol both have great hotel options with kids’ activities.
  1. Morocco (Agadir or Essaouira)
  • Flight time: ~4 hours
  • Weather: Warm and sunny, around 28°C
  • Why go: Beach plus culture. Camel rides, souks to explore, family-friendly hotels. October is ideal — not too hot but definitely still summer weather.

Let me know if you'd prefer more resort-based, active, or cultural ideas — happy to help narrow it down!
